Wasn't Reid managing them (and Robin Trower as well) for a long while? Not sure when that ended.

I saw Procol a few years ago in a shed opening for Yes. I was astounded at how wonderful Gary sounded.

Trower has not participated in anything since "Prodigal Stranger" and his contributions to that album were not significant.
I picked up "Well's On Fire" and fully expected to hear it once or twice and then put it on the shelf. I was pleasantly surprised!

I don't think he ever managed Procol. He may have turned to management (not sure which bands) after Procol's first run ended (1977).

I did a search and saw some references to Reid co-managing Procol (with Guy Stevens) but it appears that was at the very start, before AWSOP became a big hit.

I also think Matthew Fisher managed and produced Procol between A Salty Dog and Home eras.

Trower, Fisher and Reid all returned (along with Brooker, of course) for the 1991 reunion album, The Prodigal Stranger (recorded not too long after B.J. Wilson died).

    Produced but didn't manage.

  14. Too bad that Brooker and Reid aren't working together any longer. I didn't feel that Brown was a good replacement on Brooker's first solo album.

He didn't write any words for that album. Perhaps you're thinking of Peter Sinfield?

And he wasn't even the Peter Brown who called to say you can make it OK, you can get married in Gibraltar near Spain.

That's not that uncommon with prog groups. Yes only had two original members from 1973 to 1979, and from 1996 until Jon Anderson left. The current lineup of Yes has no original members. In the non-prog context, the band now touring as the Hollies does not include anyone who was in the band when they first came to EMI's attention, but Tony Hicks replaced Vic Steele shortly before the band's first recording session.
Jethro Tull was down to one original member less than three years after their first album. Interestingly, both Tull and Procol Harum ended up reconstituting their precursor groups around 1971 (the Blades and the Paramounts, respectively).
