Playing it now. Really good record. Being about his travels within the USA and a great idea to have The Jayhawks as his backing band. Thanks Ray for this gift.

Just listened to the cd. Not as strong in my opinion as the others. I like six songs on the cd. A solid B-.

Been a huge kinks fan over the years as well.

Slightly disappointed but still a fan

  4. Interesting. Think this his best solo album. Most consistent. Smart to use the Jayhawks

Too much filler. Starts real strong however the 1:13 songs go nowhere

  6. As Dave Mason once sang : And we both disagree

I love this album. So glad Ray's still standing. He's one of the last remaining voices of sanity.

I am enjoying this album a lot. I got it on ITunes, so there are no liner notes...Who is the female singer on some of the songs?

Got the CD today, really enjoying it so far about half way through. Nice big fold out lyric sheet/liner notes as well, well done with that.

Yeah, she's got a really nice voice, basically gets the lead vocal on 'A Place In Your Heart' which surprised me a bit at first but it works really well.

Listened today. File under listen once.

Wasn't terrible. But not vintage Davies songwriting either.

Thought I was on a Neil Young new album thread for a second.

Can you really absorb an album on one listen through? I know I can't.

Very good album played it 3/4 times love Ray and this has some classic Ray on it. Has the Muswell Hillbillies vibe to it.

    God bless Ray Davies

    Peace and love✌

I like it, but this is surely my least favorite of Ray's 3 21st century solo releases.
Nothing shouts brilliant like the other two. It's early.

Thus far, I like brother Dave and his son's Open Road a bit more.

I like the Americana song a lot: Ray Davies - Americana

Hasn't Ray aged though, in a way I don't see in Paul, Pete T, Roger, D, Mick, Keith.

I've listened to the album a few times now. I rate it a C. Some very good tracks, but overall too much filler.

Just finished listening to the LP and I really enjoyed it.

    Nice one Ray!

At times he sounded like Chuck Prophet or should I say it reminded me how much Chuck Prophet can sound like Ray at times!

I'm not sure if Keith (Richards) is the best person to compare to when it comes to aging. He's been looking like the walking dead for decades... ;)

If it doesn't make me want to listen a second time then it doesn't need further processing.

    See also: Neil Young.

You must miss a lot of good music, there are lots of albums that don't grab me totally first time. Guess that's the disposable streaming world we live in today.....

I think he looks ok. He kind of looks like if Vincent Price had a brother or similar, but I always thought Vincent Price was cool, so I'm good with that. :D
It's all about the music anyway and Ray still has it, so he can look like Dr.Phibes for all I care. :p
