Man, this kills me. The mini LP sleeves cost more, I did them because I love the album art and Stoughton's printing of it. I wanted to replicate the LP art as close as possible. I only hit my head against this wall once ... I'll go to my grave believing the culprit with the fine scratches was the fact that the discs were put on a spool in Austria at the DADC and then shipped that way. In any case, SJBs that get assembled in Austria. No complaints about The Flying Burrito Bros I've heard so I'm sticking with that!
HEY! Who here has bought Billy Squier Don't Say No???? I love all the bands and artists I've done, but I don't know that any had the footprint in my youth of Billy Squier. Three years of my life from 11-14 was all AC/DC and Billy Squier. Kevin killed it with the cutting on this.
Hi Shane, Great news regarding Matthew Sweet. Especially Girlfriend. My wife and I went to seem him on this tour in Toronto, and while we enjoyed it (as I recall - long time ago) very little acoustic guitar work which I missed, and a lot more of the distorted guitar work. Anyways Girlfriend is an automatic purchase for me but could you please comment on the sound quality of Girlfriend and the other 2, in comparison to the other versions, especially the Classic versions. Thanks again to you and everyone on the team for all your hard work.
I received a copy of it today, but haven't had a chance to listen yet. Maybe tomorrow afternoon. Darn kids and their schedules. Has anyone requested Sinead O'Connor's first 2 albums on vinyl?
I never do a record if I can't make the best version ever. In the cases of Girlfriend and Altered Beast, these were long programs crammed onto two vinyl sides, and we spread them out over three sides. This is HUGE. In both cases they clearly had to drop the levels substantially and probably roll off the bass. We kept them both wide open! With 100% Fun two sides for the original repertoire was comfortable and we still delivered a bigger, punchier more muscular sound.
You can never go wrong with prime era Thom Bell. It would be nice to see the first couple of Stylistics albums get the audiophile treatment. But good luck licensing them.
Obviously I did! Thanks for pointing that out. I am in for all three but really look forward to Beat Crazy.
It's hard for me to imagine improving on the original pressing of Body and Soul, but if anyone can do it...
The crowning of achievements of Lou Reed's career have been very poorly served on vinyl: New York, Songs for Drella, and Magic and Loss could all three use lovingly made AAA double-vinyl releases. 'Twould be a godsend!
Great post. Although I didn't realize the roots recorded those albums at electric lady. I know do you want more was recorded in philly. That black star album is awesome. How about the first two tribe called quest albums? Classic analog hip hop on audiophile vinyl would be interesting...
Looking forward to Beat Crazy intensely. It already leaps from the system as is, an Intervention on this title has me drooling.
That really makes me sad. Apart from hoping for a good digital release of this great album (CD/SACD are my formats), LP listeners who love seriously great pop music are really missing out. Shane, I am not going to moan about it. You have business decisions you must be clear-eyed about to keep IR going.
