    From Steven Wilson's latest newsletter...

"Also in the pipeline is the fourth in the XTC surround sound series, for which most of the work was done late last year. More news on that one soon.... "

    Any ideas?

I believe Dave Gregory suggested that Skylarking might be next up, though previously not all of the master tapes were readily available.

Why now all of a sudden (it's too late) ... English Settlement fans could have waited for another decade

A post from Steven Wilson Remixes confirms Skylarking as the next XTC release.

    Good news to be sure.

If you're talking about the 2010 cover unfortunately for you it's the cover the band originally wanted... and still wants.

    Lovely!

And here's hoping for the cover art that everyone else seems to hate!

I thought the "fixed" 2 channel version sounded good but it's hard to pass up a surround version of this classic!

In that case, I can safely skip buying the phase corrected Skylarking CD, as I know Wilson's work from the Jethro Tull series.

  20. Wow! Not just my favourite XTC album, but also the one that would benefit most from a remix. Can't wait to hear "1000 Umrellas", "Season Cycle", "Another Satellite" and "Mermaid Smiled" in 5.1.

Sold! Even though I have the double 45RPM APE re-issue, a mint U.S. original first pressing (bought on day of release), the Japanese "mini-LP" CD and I'd rather have Black Sea and English Settlement first.

Marketing conundrum for sure. Skylarking is the monetary money shot, for sure. (No pun intended re: the cover art... :D ) As the corrected polarity version is only 2 years old, it does seem a bit soon for another version, but it will be the most successful of all of them, so it should help fund the others. (I wonder how they've done - I'd imagine Nonsvch is likely the lowest selling title of the 3.) I wonder how they'll deal with the crossfades. I hope they get rid of the "Dear God"/"Dying" one - never liked it. If anything, I'd love the original album, with "Dear God" tacked onto the end. Having had the album since day 1, it still never sounds right to me in context...

Count me in on wanting English Settlement. Not only my favorite XTC record, but probably my favorite album of all time.

    Where's this update from?

"Extrovert" probably counts as one of them - which brings us to 16 studio tracks. Interesting that if there were 2 more completed, they went with demos as b-sides for the other singles.

Dear God does sound out of place if you're used to the original LP. However, it was always supposed to be there and that's how Andy wants it. I'm not quite sure if Andy wanted Mermaid Smiled to be dropped though.
