Good for them, and I’m sure that they’re proud since that’s A LOT of views, and they’ve clearly had staying power to reach that many views.

Huh, I would've thought it'd be the Rickroll (which, it turns out, is at 450 million as of now).

I had no idea it was so popular. I never saw the classic Guns N Roses lineup performing together, but I saw Axl Rose and Slash separately.

If you'd asked someone back in the day where GnR would be in three decades they might well have said "the cemetery".

Who could've imagined they'd be making half a billion on tour and having millions of people who weren't even born yet watching their videos?

That's so cool. Cool video too, I'm responsible for at least six or seven of those views.

That's a looong video. How many billions of man hours have been spent worldwide watching it.

And I suppose that however many millions the video cost was money well spent, seeing as it is still getting so much love over 25 years later. To think, they probably laughed at Axl when he suggested building a church in the middle of a desert...

And the band made $1.17 off of all the views.

Yeah. Would love to guess percentages on what percentage of those billion views made it through the whole video. I'd wager less than 10%.

Is that the one where he's running about on the cliff with his Les Paul which isn't plugged in?

    Awful.

Good thing it was recorded right, otherwise Axl would’ve quit the business

Well, I'm sure it's more than that but I'd be curious to know. "Gangnam Style" had earned $870,000 by the time it hit 1 billion views but there's no telling how the money is dispersed. In the case of a video, I wonder if it has to be shared. The was a director, Andy Morahan; a writer, who based the video on a short story, so maybe both deserve a cut; and the record label, which always figures out a way to take a piece of the action.

By the time all is said and done, Slash maybe got enough to cover a year's worth of men's hormone injections.

That's nothing - for "Estranged" he was soloing from the middle of the ocean.

82% of those billion views also clicked on a “Kitten Plays With String” video, also.

I feel like I saw it a billion times when it was current. I swear it was the only video MTV played for about a year.

I am surprised that such a long video is the first to 1 billion views.

There is hope for attention spans after all! :)

Surprising for such a mediocre song.

Well, a “View” does not require mandatory observation of the entire length of the video.
(That may be against the law in 46 states... :) )

    Someone please correct me -
But I think a “view” requires the video to run 10 or 20 or 30 seconds....

Which is ample enough time when:
putting wet laundry into the dryer,
    refilling the dog bowl,
    texting your classmate,
    guessing on your homework,
    going to the bathroom,
asking the kids to get ready for school for the 3rd time,
    Tweeting,
    Facebooking,
    Skyping,
    Mine crafting,
    web surfing,
    Facebooking,
    craigslisting,
    Ebaying
    shopping on Amazon Prime Day,
looking at New Posts on the Steve Hoffman Music Forum...

They clicked it. Doesn't mean they stayed with it 'till the end.
