Ha! I have no aversion to adventurous music...I just find everything about Cook's playing -- from his harsh digital tone to his rather hackneyed note choices -- to be pretty uninspired. Not really sure why Homer keeps him around, but hey, it ain't my band...
Just discovered this on Hardy's website... might have been there for some time, but it was new to me, so I thought I'd share. "Hardy no longer records anything at all. That era ended. Perhaps even death was not the reason. He was thinking more and more that he had completed his personal expectations." - Rebecca Rothers and, also first I've heard of it: "Hardy retired from The Residents in 2015 but continued to compose for the group through 2018."
maybe a pseudonym.... From the FOX web-site (boy, that sounds wrong......) ====== Here are some pseudonyms ====== The Residents (instrumental projects) Dead Eye Dick (13th Ann Tour) Max (Pollex Christi) Combo de Mechanico (music) Sonido de la Noche (music) Chuck (music) Charles Bobuck (music) Charles Bobuck Contraption (music) Carlos Bobuck (music) Bobuck (music) Bob Uck (music) TAR (music) Tar and the Cry Babies (music) Big Brother (web site) BB (web site) Will Rothers (web site) Rebecca Rothers (writer) Sammi Selmo (graphics) And yes, Hardy stopped touring, mid-"Shadowland"... That's why he was replaced by Eric Drew Feldman... at least at the show I went to... Shook his hand, and saw him and Nolan eating at the cafe, next to the venue.
are they sneaking out the news? That looks new to me and sounds very sad. I had seen the 2015-2018 before, but I think Intruders is the first wholly Hardy-less album? The single certainly sounds like a new band and approach.
So.... I'll be watching the live show, on the internet, TONIGHT! Thursday, October 11 2018, 1:43pm LITQUAKE LIVE BROADCAST NEXT WEEK There will be a 360 live broadcast of the LitQuake performance this Tuesday, October 16. We won't know the web address for the broadcast until about an hour before the show (scheduled for 8pm Pacific, 00:00 UTC), but we'll share it sometime between 7pm and 8pm. So in that hour or so before the curtains open, get the link from The Residents Official Site - The Residents or Facebook. No special software will be required to view this 360 performance - it will be viewable in the YouTube app on mobile devices or on YouTube in a web browser. It is expected that the broadcast will be archived for future viewing. If computers and internets frighten you, tickets are still available to attend in person: Litquake 2018 festival: The Residents Present The Brickeaters (A... Swedish American Hall San Francisco, California 8:00 PM
Too bad I have to get ready to go to work now. But since it "will be archived for future viewing", I will watch it later. Enjoy!
Re: The live stream. The sound quality is awful unfortunately - bass heavy and distorted, not a direct feed just miked from the room. I'll see how far I can go.
It was a great show, what made it onto the stream at least. It cut out twice, the last time right before the last song.
The worst thing about it (of the many...) was the fact that all the "Brickeaters" reading parts were obscured, since there was no way to get a good view of the 'balloon-screens'! ...boo, I say....
Thing about 360, if you're not doing it in 8k, its not worth it. 4k is only ok, as its spread over the full 360. but this looks less than that. Or hampered by the low light.
First impressions: I never got on with Ghost of Hope, and I get a better vibe off this one. Things were getting a bit too "story" for me, and this is from someone whose favourite Rez album is God in Three Persons....(can't listen to it often though) I do keep wondering what if any contribution Hardy had to Intruders. I can hear EDF and NC starting to seep into the residents writing, and sometimes I feel the songs are a bit too, well, "song-y" for the residents. But having said that, on a very quick first listen, I like it as an album and will go back to it. I might like it more as an album, than I like it as a residents album, if that makes sense. Just feel a bit sad, as for me the Rez was always HF and HF, with all the highs and lows. I don't buy the premise that the residents could continue forever with replacement members. As long as HF is still there, I will hang on...
I listened to "Intruders" a few times now and I like it. Sure, they're not breaking new grounds here, but it's a solid album imo.
...got an email with the answer- “There’s plenty else happening too – ‘Eskimo’ and ‘Commercial Album’ pREServed sets due in January.”
Got mine too! BUT......... "and, word is, a limited, mail order only vinyl release looking at that pre-Residential 1971-1972 period in the band’s history." BOO, I say....
