They were, which I never knew until reading this thread. They are (all?) now available as bonus tracks on Wooden Head I think.
Just opened my Turtles Album Collection Box Set yesterday and Disc Two plays the same songs as Disc One (even though it has the graphics printed on it for Disc Two)
Which means they loaded at least one wrong spindle of discs into the press when they printed them. (Discs are molded first, then printed later, and even with tight organizational controls mixups happen from time to time.)
I got the All The Singles 2 CD set from Amazon for $13.99. I just finished listening to Disc 1 and it's great! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HEYDFJC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Manifesto is individually releasing the Turtles' six albums in May, 2017. I expect that they will be the same mastering as the recent boxed set; the tracklists are the same. I'd like to see them in jewel cases. It Ain't Me Babe - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M756PI8/ You Baby - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M7Y217W/ Happy Together - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M9JDPDU/ Battle of the Bands - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M8QRM96/ Turtle Soup - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M7Y2LT9/ Wooden Head - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M9JBA2N/
It would be really stupid not to use the excellent recent masterings. I wouldn't expect jewel cases, though. In the complete set, each album came shrink-wrapped, as a rypical collection of standout releases put together in a box, so expect cardboard sleeves, and perhaps no booklet at all.
I just received the 45 RPM 8-disc vinyl box...they sound pretty good but wasn't Surfer Dan the B side of Eleanor?? I'm also a bit disappointed they didn't replicate the original Blue Whale label. But still, they *are* very good pressings.
One odd thing about the box set that I don't believe anyone mentioned in this thread is the lack of songwriting credits. Unless I missed them there are no credits for who wrote the songs in the booklet or the individual mini gatefolds.
Random thing I thought people might appreciate - Gilbert Gottfried interviews Howard Kaylan - a lot is the same stories as his book, but still interesting: #141 Howard Kaylan
I listened to a couple of Gilbert Gottfried's podcast and it was pretty entertaining. Thanks for the head's up. Did you check out the interviews I linked to earlier in the thread of Howard and Mark (Separate interviews) a few years ago by John Montagna (a member of the Happy Together touring band)?
Howard said the Group preferred this Version over the Lp Version. "Umbassa the Dragon",however was a little over the Top for most Turtles' Fan!
I didn't. I have to confess that my main interest was actually in their lawsuit with SiriusXM, which didn't really get mentioned, but it was an interesting listen regardless.
Just seen this on SPIN :https://www.spincds.com/coming-soon/live-compendium-9cd-box-52705 Need the tracklists !!! Could there be more on these UK reissues than on the US reissues ?
That would be... how can I put this? >something like that From the lists I see in Amazon UK right now, mono and stereo versions have been put in different discs in the early albums, and for Battle and Soup, the bonus tracks were confined in a "companion disc", but I don't see any other exclusive material.
These seem to be repackaged versions of last years box set.....so, I don't expect anything new as far as outtakes go. It would be a nice touch if they float the mono singles from the other 2 Disc set from last year onto the bonus discs of this collection.
I also hope it will only be a repackage of all the US material from the album boxset & singles 2 CD set !
Oh yes ! 2 disc, Mono, Stereo. I just pre ordered the first 5 from Amazon US, only $12.79 each. "UK Exclusive." Thanks to @fitzysbuna ! : Turtles new 2 cd sets .
I would definitely wait on more detail on that. That'd be 10 albums to cover both the mono, and stereo. .
