Original/Unaltered "Star Wars" Trilogy on Blu-Ray in 2017

I feel like this is not going to happen.

 

Seems like the year to do it (40th anniversary of the original film), so if we don't get an announcement by the end of June (pretty much the deadline for a Fall release announcement to build hype), I'd say it's not happening.

 

I have a bad feeling about this.

 

I would say it's a good bet that if it's happening Lucasfilm will announce it at Star Wars Celebration next month (April 13-16, 2017). If that convention with all of its hoopla goes by and nothing has been said about it then it's not happening this year.

 

I'll believe it when I see this puppy for sale on the shelves!

 

True, though I imagine the major thing there will be a trailer for The Last Jedi.

 

Im not sure why they would announce it now. Why take the attention off of 8? Or 9 for that matter.

I think its plausible that the upgraded 4k Star Wars could come out after the last trilogy has come to a close. It could be one helluva exlaimation point to the whole shabang.

"The original trilogy 4k (or will it be 8k by 2020?) box set...! Coming soon to a streaming service near you..!"

Yes, this is me refusing to give up hope. But, it is possible and not crazy talk.

 

Star Wars Celebration in a few weeks, if it's happening it'll probably be announced there. The trailer for 8 will most likely be debuted aswell.

It's an announcement "40 years in the making," according to Good Morning Anerica's video. Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley will both be there for the announcement tomorrow.

 

The only other thing that comes to mind is perhaps a more high-profile announcement regarding Carrie Fisher's Episode 9 status (which was already revealed earlier this week, so it'd be a bit odd. But it would explain Daisy Ridley's presence).

It was suggested on another forum that this may turn out to be an announcement regarding Force for Change. It would make sense in light of the fact that Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley will both be on hand for the Good Morning America announcement. It may turn out to be one of those donate for the chance to join Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley at the premier of Star Wars: The Last Jedi-type campaigns.

 

The Last Jedi push won't start until Friday. The announcement will be 40th Anniversary-related.

 

I certainly hope you're right. However, I thought it possible that Hamill and Ridley would be pushing the Force for Change charity, using the chance to join them for the premier as an incentive to donate to the charity, not pushing the film itself.

And it's a worthy cause. I hope it's a great success. But I'm not sure the announcement lives up to the "40 Years In The Making" hype. Only in an indirect sense can that phrase be remotely justified to accurately reflect the actual announcement.

Then again, they may not have realized how a few diehard fans like us tend to analyze (indeed, over-analyze) statements like that for tiny morsels of...hope.

 

I believe the announcement is the beginning of many for the 40th Anniversary. Many things happening this year, I hear.

 

It's nearing the end of Star Wars Celebration, and there is no announcement yet. I think you're right.

 

I think Celebration goes until the 16th. Still time for something...
