I love Otis Redding, I will never forget him or the day he died.

I wish he was still around; we would have had a lot more great music to enjoy.

very sad and is missed ! but what was shocking was the posting of him being dead and getting pulled out of the water I will never understand how someone could do that!

I’ve always liked Otis but the last year or two I can’t get enough of his music. So young and sounded so worldwise. An incredible voice lifted to a higher level thanks to stax and those incredible musicians. Not sure I can pick a favorite but both You Left the Water Running and you don’t miss your water would be Up there.

As best I can find, the only single with a writing credit to his dear wife Zelma,
    posthumously released in 1968:

"I've Got Dreams To Remember" - Otis Redding, (Written-By – Joe Rock,
    Otis Redding, Zelma Redding).

This anniversary 7-inch marks the first time the original version has appeared on vinyl since the initial release in 1968.
    Definitely down for this!

I wet to An Evening Of Respect, which was a 50th anniversary celebration of Otis, at the Apollo in Harlem last night. It was a LOT of fun. Whoopi Goldberg was supposed to host but cancelled due to the flu, so Otis' three kids emceed and were wonderful.

The Dap-Kings were the house band and the guests all ranged from solid to great, but the highlights for me were Booker T. & Cropper sitting in (Booker T. & the MG - they're all that's left!) and the force of nature and DNA that is Dexter Redding.

    Good God.

He is his father incarnate. Looks just like him. Sounds just like him. Moves just like him. It was more than a little freaky.

I thought one of the nicest parts was actually the house band's kick-off - "Soul Finger" - which, in addition to being a great way to start the party, was also a very nice tribute to the Bar-Kays (most of whom went down with Otis).

Anyway, it was a pretty great night of wonderful tunes at a remarkable theater.
