I don't know..this might be too much Otis for me. It's not exactly Miles Davis at the Plugged Nickel.

Actually, Buffalo springfield played their first gig ever at the Troubadour the night after (4/11) the last Otis show on this set.

Thanks to "zoom", I spotted this on the back of the box, at the bottom:
    "Made In The Czech Republic".

Rising Sons were the opening act?
    I did not know that.

A very positive review from Pitchfork.

I have a lot on my plate (and coming up) but I think I'll get it eventually as it sounds too good (despite the repetition). So in the meantime I'm price watching it.

Nor is it Lenny Bernstein at The Philharmonic. Obviously. It is Otis.

Yes it is repetitive. However there are some killer performances on this. Granted they could distill this into one killer CD.

I fully approve of the release and probably should have left out the parenthetical. I flip-flopped and after a price drop went ahead with the 3 dozen discs of '66 Dylan which is what's coming "on my plate". So I'm quite comfortable doing repetitive, since often it is in name only.

And this Otis set really has gone to "must have" for me, especially as it's his band and there are different songs in the set than what came later. The old tape trader in me marvels at what is being released nowadays. All of these caged shows being set free.

Can anyone here compare the sound quality (or other aspects) to Live on the Sunset Strip?

The aforementioned Pitchfork linked review, as well as other online articles and reviews, have sold me.
    Purchase made.
At the same time, I also bought Rising Sons Featuring Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder.
    See what I did there?

    It's up next for playing.
    Anyone else bought/received/played one yet?

  18. Yes, yes and yes. Not sure why it took so long for a box set when these soundboard tapes have been in the vault for so long. A great job on the mixing/mastering. It's Otis high energy live at his best and in your face. If you're on the fence, buy it. :tiphat:

I want to download this from i-tunes but I have no desire to have 7 different live versions of "Satisfaction" from the same venue nor duplicates of most of the songs that exist in this set.

There are 59 different performances of 17 songs.

My shortcut is to ask any one here who has the complete set to maybe recommend the best version / performance of each song?:tiphat:

Any interest in getting the two LP vinyl distillation? It's fantastic.

I had the "Otis Redding in Person at the Whiskey A Go Go" on vinyl and my recollection was it didn't sound as good as what I'm hearing on this box set.

This a tremendous box set. The online review thats says that the musical intensity builds with each night is absolutely correct.
I wonder how much a ticket cost.
I don't know if others found this, but my disc/sleeve fits were as tight as any cds I've ever bought (an adaptation of a line from my Uncle Bill, involving a shark at a depth of one-hundred feet, does come to mind at his point).
