Please Please Me - the Anthology 1 version

I think it sounds so much better without the echoey production and the harmonica

And It's Only Love Too -- better without the Leslie.

Beatles - You Know My Name on Anthology is much better than the edited b-side original

I prefer the acoustic Preflyte version of I Knew I'd Want You to the album version too, though they're both great.

And later on from the Byrds, I kinda prefer Gene Parsons' fingerpicking on the Yesterday's Train demo to the strumming on the album version. But then maybe that'd be too busy once they added the drums and pedal steel.

There is a boot version without the giggles.

Genesis: bootleg take of "It's Yourself", then called "Indian Summer". Not too different, but has an extra verse that makes the story it tells clearer.

IQ: alternate version of "One Fatal Mistake", the one with the synth choir extended ending. I think they feared a comparison with the ending of Genesis "Afterglow", but the resemblance is minor (to my ears).

yes! just had the new quality version here at the office this week. I remember the first version on a horrible vinyl boot and it was edited. UI think this is my fourth upgrade.

The boot version of Bruce's Linda Will You let Me Be The one is still far superior to the rough sounding version he put on Tracks

I like R.E.M.'s "Voice of Harold" more than "Seven Chinese Brothers." The "real" song is good, one of the highlights of Reckoning, even, but the extemporaneous "Harold" has an unbeatable charm. A must!

FWIW, theres a fantastic electric "rock" version of Raspberry Beret from the 1999 era circulating as well. Prince is shredding all over it. :)

I prefer the ridiculously over the top Sitar version of "Norwegian Wood" to the final, more sedate version

I heard that Anthology 2 version for years before finally getting Rubber Soul.

It was SO weird hearing the official version eventually.

I agree with this, too (although I think the Anthology version is better). Much better drumming as well.

I personally think Bowie's alternate take of the Supermen is superior to the original studio version:

  19. In my opinion, The Beatles made the wrong call by splitting up Revolution 1 and 9 instead of just releasing the combined Take 20...

I love the extended version of The Beach Boys' "'Til I Die", with the vibes and bass on their own at the start. Far, far better than the album edit.
