'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey', 'Martha My Dear', 'Beautiful Night', 'Tug of War', 'Silly Love Songs', any one of those are songs I'd absolutely LOVE to see performed with the horns section. (Or without even, I'll take what I can get!)
It's the perfect timing to perform Martha My Dear live: - known by the great audience; - not that hard to sing; - it's 50 this year; - now he has a brass section; - cool to play on the (new) magic piano along with Lady Madonna.
The singing on Silly Love Songs is some of Linda's and Denny Laine's best work with Wings - the interplay and the tone is fantastic. I don't think it would sound right without her, and for that reason I'd be surprised if it gets any outings now.
People talking about "Martha my dear" played live reminded me of this video I found on YouTube a while ago. I think its a really energetic version of one of my favorite songs.
Did this get posted? Paul McCartney on social media, and 50 years of 'The White Album': CP CP: The Freshen Up tour melds a selection of your latest songs in with old Beatles and Wings favourites. Besides slipping a few new ones into the set list, like the subtly sexual track "Fuh You," how do you keep your concerts exciting for both you and the audience? McCartney: What we're doing now is freshening up the show, trying things like new video projections. We get a lot of fans who have been to the show before, so I'm conscious of trying to keep it fresh for them. We have a couple of people who've been over 100 times... all of us in the band and crew can't believe these people want to keep coming back. We love that they do, but you put yourself in that position, you think, "Would I want to go to 100 shows of the same person?" But we're very glad they do. LOL
Yeah. So far all my McCartney shows have been in Toronto. [And I have heard MoK every time.. ] Perhaps on the next leg....
New video projections is what he considers freshening up? Why not promote the new #1 album & sing more songs from Egypt Station?
If I were him, and I spent just a half hour on MaccaBoards, I wouldn't give a damn what the 100+ show crowd wanted.
We don't, but a lot of people probably do more than you think. The majority of the general crowd with shorter attention spans who prefer to hear the greatest hits.
Seeing Paul "sing along" with the kid from the video lip synching "Fuh You" was not a Quebec highlight, IMO.
A friend of mine is one of these people. They're doing a couple dozen shows this year. At least Paul mixes it up. I'll also say that he and his band seem to go out of their way to be really cool with the superfan folks.
With one or two exceptions, he doesn't play anything off post-70's albums after the tour for it has ended. He's got lots of nice things to say about Flowers In The Dirt but hasn't played any of it's songs since 1991. He's convinced no one wants to hear anything but Beatles songs and a few well-known Wings cuts, which is a bummer. Then again, he inexplicably keeps playing "My Valentine" for some ungodly reason.
