It's a YouTube of the big screen, so actually quite good!

Got rid of the "slightly different, not-played-every-show" ones. That's our boy! :)

    That's what happens when @maccafan complains! :D

I can't seem to figure out what I did yesterday, but I stumbled on something on setlist.fm that seemed to claim that McCartney has played 600+ songs live over the course of his career.

This one's back to the Budokan. I've Got a Feeling. I think a false ending and then starts up again? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding and the next song just gets cut off.

How long did 'Hope for The Future' stay in the set list?

I remember he played it the last time I saw him a couple of years ago in Stockholm and it was really enjoyable live.

So it was in the set list for a few months in total I guess.

The last time was October, 22, 2015. Buffalo, NY.

You probably saw July 9, 2015 in Stockholm.

    Landhorses beat me to it!

I found that setlist #. McCartney has played 693 different songs live, over the years. That is simply incredible.

It's been played only 23 times.

The Ramones used to play 693 different songs in ONE concert, and it still took less than 1 hour. Now that was incredible ... ;)

    Yes, it's unbelievable - which is why I don't believe it! ;)

Maybe - MAYBE - if you count all the songs the Beatles played in their club days, you might get to 693.

But McCartney on his own? No way - there's just no chance he's played that many different songs over the years.

Setlist.fm states Macca has now played 695 concerts over his career - is that maybe the number you saw and thought it was songs played instead?

Agreed the only way he would hit 693 songs is if someone was going through Lewisohn's Beatles Live book and counting every song they are rumored to have played in their club days.

I would be shocked to learn Paul had played half that many songs live in his solo/Wings career.

You can click on that link and see for yourself. It's numbered to 203, with many "ties". Click on each song and you can see exactly where and when he played it. "Why Don't We Do it In the Road"? 4 times, including twice in the desert.

Interesting. Seems like a lot of those may have been jokey bits or just snatches played rather than full songs.

You're misreading it. That's still the number of setlists they have, not the total number of different songs he's played.

Look over the list of actual songs - it's more like 300, and a lot of those "once played" songs are extremely questionable inclusions. They include quick "goofs" and TV/radio one-offs and a lot of stuff that makes little sense at all.

I'd guess the number of "real performances" from that list is around 200ish. Looks like the list doesn't include Wings, so that probably jumps his total to around 250 songs played in real concerts.

Again, if you add in Beatles - including club days - it's possible Macca gets to 693 over his lifetime. But without the Beatles? Nope...

I tried clicking on Hey Jude. Says 592 times, 24 pages of it played, with first time (on this site) as 1989. 23 pages x 25 concerts = 575 times. Plus last page (24) with 16 = 591. One off.

    Not Beatles.

They are. The tally I list above isn't exact, but I think it's a pretty close estimate.

Even if you "accept" the goofs and oddball "songs" they count, the Macca total comes to around 300. The Wings list has 81 different songs, so if you subtract the songs played by Macca solo and Wings, that gets you to around 350 total.

Zeki just misread the statistics. Wouldn't it seem incredibly coincidental that McCartney had played exactly the same number of songs as he'd played concerts?

Yup - he's played "Hey Jude" 592 times. And your point is...?

No one argues that he's played lots of concerts. No one argues that he's played some of those songs hundreds of times.

But you claim that he's played 693 different songs and that's wrong.

Not sure how telling us how many times he played one specific song supports your argument.

Add up the songs on the page you linked: it's about 300, and as noted, about 100 of those probably don't really count...
