The film ends on a sour note of triumph for him: he's beaten the Senate investigation and he's solidified his position as a Mafia supremo. But in the process he's become a monster - and it definitely hasn't played out the way he expected it to when he signed up after Pearl Harbour. His marriage has ended, in extremely painful circumstances. So, yes, at the end he's alone with some very bitter thoughts and we don't need to be guided as to what those thoughts are - his silence and his expression say it all.

I don't know how you could improve this one. Sidney Lumet gave it go...

Probably the most magical moments in film for me are:

The Usual Suspects - During the collage of previous dialog as agent Kujan's coffee cup drops in slow motion as he realizes that Verbal just fed him a long yarn to hide the true identity of Keyser Soze.

The Prestige - During the collage of images near the ending after Borden/Fallon confronts Angier.

Barton Fink - The realization of the image on the hotel room wall, as Barton sits on the seashore with the box that may or may not contain his muse's head.

Mean Streets - At the beginning when when Scorsese is doing the voice-over as the priest talking about infinite pain to Keitel, who is holding his hand to the lit candles.

O! Brother Where Art Thou - When the law catches up to Ulysses who prays as the ditch diggers sing You Got to Go to That Lonesome Valley and is then hit by the wall of water.

Glengarry Glen Ross - Where Shelly Levine is trying to tell Richard Roma that he is the one who robbed the office, but Richard is too busy praising him.

Interstellar - Where Cooper finds himself stuck in the tesseract on the opposite side of Murph's library from her.

Much about Clockwork Orange is perfect for me, but the fight scene in the old theater has to be one of the best choreographed scenes ever...

Every single scene in Touch of Evil. I've watched that film so many times and just paused the DVD on so many scenes just staring in wonderment at the piece of still art I'm beholding. The lighting, the shadows, the perspective, the placement of people and objects, the camera angles ... sheer perfection! Some of the most brilliant and inventive cinematography and editing you'll ever witness.

Of course, Charlton Heston as a Mexican cop can be a bit difficult to swallow, and Orson Welles looks ghastly, but watch it for the pleasure of beautiful filmmaking. And that opening scene ... that'll grab your attention, guaranteed.

The final few minutes of The Godfather are amazing. From the montage of the murders interspersed with the baptism, to Michael's last conversation with Carlo, to Michael coldly brushing off Connie and lying to Kay, then finally, the door closing on Kay as she realizes Michael has become everything he swore he wouldn't.
