One of the great scenes ever. I was surprised ... from Quentin Tarentino. But it went down hill pretty fast after that. The ending was ridiculous.

That ending I would put on this list. It was Carrie, and what the world would want to see, all wrapped up into one. Perhaps we as a world are Carrie, and it was just seemed so evil in a Gremlins stupendous kind of way.

Dude, for me if it didn't have that ending, it wouldn't be remembered. I have never bought into the idea that Quentin Tarantino was "losing it", and as he said, it was his answer to There Will Be Blood. Good showing fine director!

The movie is ridiculous. I don't see how that is unexpected once the plot starts to unfold.

I would also add that the pub scene is perfect too.

Are you saying the endibg was predictable? I never ever expected that crazy perfect mess...the backdrop the scary as Scarface like dropped camera zoom in...dear lord it was like Brian De Palma in a blender. To me that was just heaven. Each to their own though. I respect that.

One which comes to mind that hasn't been mentioned yet is the apartment sequence from Jacques Tati's PlayTime.

Maybe the greatest scene in cinema. Brilliant. Gene Kelly was amazing.

Well, what you need to know is Criterion got stuck with SD masters for the alternate cuts of Jour de fĂȘte, Monsieur Hulot's Holiday and Mon Oncle so personally, I'd stick with the main versions on the disc (which means with Holiday you get the see the difference between nitrate and safety stock thanks to one added gag for the 78 version)

Best would be the one in post 113 above... but here is the next best. The composition is perfect.

How did I forget that scene? The camera work is awesome. And, of course, the music is perfect. Plus: helicopters are just plain cool. Great stuff.

Without spoiling it for anyone, I think the scene in Michael Mann's Manhunter where Graham is looking at the monitors with his mind going 100mph is a perfect scene. So is the beach scene near the beginning of the film where he and Crawford are talking. That one's not up on YouTube though or I'd post it.

I had always taken Charlie Chaplin for granted until, while channel flipping late one night, I came in on the second half of this clip. I got hooked, had to find out what it was and was floored to learn that it was Chaplin.
