Phil Emmanuel dead at 65

Sad day for guitar players, great iconic Aussie player and brother
of Tommy, has died:
Guitar legend Phil Emmanuel dies suddenly in Parkes, aged 65

 

Huge talent - I'm at a total loss for words. RIP Phil........

 

if you never saw the Emmanuels play, your really missing some fun picking....

 

The entire family was a musical touring unit.

 

I doubt Tommy would ever find a greater sparring partner ......

 

I saw Phil play only once, upstairs in a tiny room in Caxton St Brisbane maybe 20 years ago. The most astounding memory i took away was an exquisitely beautiful and near haunting version of Albatross played by a master guitarist with grace and depth of soul. RIP

 

I saw him one year in Tamworth, playing solo to backing tracks to about 20 people. He was loud!
Big Amps, Big PA, and lotssss of volume. He was 'philominal'!!
The man could rock out! and such a normal cat to talk to, like total
opposite offstage persona.

 

I always thought Phil was the better player than Tommy, specially on electric..

I've heard many many other players say the same thing, and you wouldn't be out of line saying that.
They developed individually to their own styles obviously, and even Tommy would probably admit
he was the 'better' electric player.

Very sad news. Literally gasped when I saw this thread, didn't want to believe it was true. Far too young to lose him. RIP Phil
