I've recently upgraded to a turntable that can accommodate two tonearms, one for mono playback and the other for stereo. Interested in any opinions on phono preamps that have more than one input. Any price range that is human scale.. I'm more interested in the sound impressions and performance of the preamps than the price at this point. Would like to know what features are most important to everyone and any solutions out there for this type of multiple set up. Currently running a Lenco idler based turntable with an ARC ph5 phono preamp.
    Cheers

Not sure what price range you are shooting for, but the Manley Steelhead has 3 inputs (2 MC, 1 MM).

I like to keep systems as simple with as few boxes as possible, but I'd think having a dedicated stage for each cartridge allows for the best cartridge matching.

I'm waiting for a Magi Phono Stage to be completed. These are a hand built to order, Tube Dual Input Phono Stage.

The only downside, it's MM/MI only, Takes about 4-6 weeks to receive it.

The Steelhead is the only one I know of that will allow that but it costs $8500.

If you really want to go all out, the EMT JPA-66 will allow 2 MC and 2 MM connections.

Those are all great suggestions, thank you!

I've looked for a little while now and only knew of one or two of these units before your replies. The Magi looks like a killer for the price, anyone own one now and could comment on it's sound compared to well known suspects such as the steelhead, rhea, or others?
Rolltide, i agree, i could just use two different stages, in fact i have a spare black cube i was considering using for the purpose. The idea to simplify and have one unit with tremendous sound and front panel switching options is compelling though. I'll need to be adjusting resistance and capacitance often because of the carts i own going back to the 50's like GE mono's. With headshells i can swap carts quickly and would like to dial them in.
    Cheers Bill

The KAB EQS MK12 has two inputs and is the most flexible preamp I know of. No personal experience, though. The website says "temporarily unavailable," but the last time I checked it was about $1,600.

A lot of integrated amps have mm and mc by multiple inputs but they probably not as good as standalone.

I'm extremely happy with my TW Acustics RPS-100. Hugely versatile and quality second to none, again and as always IMHO.

Or, you can use a switch from Rek-O-Kut for $37.50, which will allow two sources hooked up to one phono stage.

Hello Billby. You might see what a few dealers will do for you on home trial. That will be the most telling based on your ears and the rest of your system. Apart from that EMT- which I haven't heard (the only person I know who uses one is in Manila), the Lamm LP 2.1 Deluxe is huge bang for the money (expensive, but if you like the way the Lamm decodes "space" you'll be part of the cult); it does, however, only have one MC and one MM as I recall, but you could buy an appropriate step up to suit for a particular cartridge to load the MM input). I had a Steelhead early on, and though it had oodles of flexibility, I far prefer the Allnic H 3000 I'm using these days- again, because I like how it handles spatial characteristics of the presentation (tube rolling the rectifier makes a big difference). If you weren't looking to upgrade your ARC phono in its own right, Rolltide's suggestion makes good sense.

While I don't have the Magi Phonomenal in my possession...yet, I should have within the next 2-3 weeks. I will be putting it up against my current Rogue Audio Ares Phono Pre.

I suppose HO MC will work as well?
