One group you did not mention - Led Zeppelin. Although the chances of this happening are at about zero.

Definately in the next poll + David Bowie, Deep Purple, Clapton Solo, Caravan, Free, T-Rex, Thin Lizzy, Grateful Dead, Alan Parsons,...

Polls are limited to "25", and I wanted to do a mix of classic & modern music.

I would put Dire Straits at the very top of this list.

Seems like it makes so much sense.

Followed closely by Pink Floyd and Radiohead.

Well depends on which Dire Straits you want. Brothers in Arms was digitally recorded IIRC, and there is no way it was recorded in 24/192kHz. More likely 16 bit 48k. No point paying extra for something thats upsampled!!

And to be fair, my comments apply to everything from HDTracks. I wouild love to be able to download staff at 24/192 but would like to be certain that it was recorded:
    a) analog then converted at 24/192k, or
    b) digital at 24/192kHz

Unfortunately, the digital download thing is a bit of a minefield (like buying new vinyl - refer to the CD-soourced vinyl thread). It is generally impossible to know the source of the file you buy, and it not unknown for some files to be upsampled.

Actually, its just not digital downloads. I've got 2 DVD-Audio discs that are presented as 24/96k, but spectrum analysis shows that they are clearly upsampled.

That's interesting about BIA - I just assumed that it would have been recorded in higher resolution and then downsampled into 16/44. Makes sense though!

I'd also like to see the full Alan Parsons Project catalog in hirez (and surround).

Adele and Amy. Enough of the old stuff. Also enough of the FLAC - uncompressed high res for me. Not meant to be a rant, just specifying my preferences.

I started picking and choosing, but then I thought to myself -- I want them ALL to be released at 24/192 (or even 24/96, for that matter - I won't be picky here).

The goal being that high-def lossless digital downloads should be as ubiquitous as the CD. So I want them all because that would mean that we'd finally be in that situation - doesn't matter if i personally would buy them or not, I just want the option.

I would love to see Springsteen, Sinatra and U2 in some flavor of high-res, whether physical or download. It boggles my mind that all three are to date woefully underrepresented.

From your list I voted for Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, Pink Floyd, Adele, Kraftwerk, and Amy Winehouse. It would also be great to see hi-res releases of albums by Oasis, The Stone Roses, and Paul Weller one day.

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

With as much praise as Prince's "Parade: gets for it's sound quality, I would think that would be a perfect pick.

I'd also like to suggest some classic Van Halen.

    How about some Aretha Franklin?

I just responded to what was mentioned. I have a ton of stuff I'd love to see on HDTracks -- it would go right off the page.

What is an HD Tracks Audiophile Remaster? They do not remaster anything and only distribute what is provided them. As for Adele and The Black Keys what would the point of high resolution files be? I like and have both of their music but their stuff is so compressed I hardly see the point.

All of this is assuming these were originally recorded to analog tape and that they were doing straight transfers from the best copies available without any eq or compression added and if the releases were digital then having them released in the highest bit depth and sampling rate...ie if it was from a DAT then release the 16bit 48khz. I don't think it really adds anything sonically to take a 16/44.1 and upsample it to 24/192, you're just wasting hard drive space at that point. That being said I think 24/96 is probably sufficient even for most high end systems. My setup won't recognize above that so I don't really care.
