*POLL* Best opening song on an album - R2, G2

    GROUP4 - TOMORROW

Again, perhaps one dead cert but it should be quite a tussle for the remaining qualification berth,

I expect the permutation Beatles and Nirvana but as these polls have shown, you can never be sure.

Ultimately I cast a vote only for the Nirvana song as I don't feel anything for the others and as @TheSeldomSeenKid pointed out recently, sometimes it's the case that you will leave a vote unused.

    I voted for:

Smells Like Teen Spirit(my 1st Choice by Far and I am only a moderate Nirvana Fan)

Welcome to the Jungle(I do not even own any Music by Guns 'N' Roses, but this is a Great Song that would be a Great Opening Song on most Rock Albums-IMO). Also, love how it was about scaring Tourist visiting LA. Get out of here, we do not need anymore traffic and cars clogging up the 405 & 10 Freeways-haha.

I don't like the voices of Plant and Cobain. And I don't like the pauses / dead zones in the songs.

Taxman and Welcome to the Jungle. The shorter songs!

When you say "And I don't like the pauses / dead zones in the songs." ...I think you are referring to dynamics and rests. Music theory :)

You're right, probably. I don't think it works for an opening song. Well this is all about taste.. of course we will disagree

As much as I'm a "Beatles-above-all-else" fan boy, Taxman is right up against it here.

Voting for Smells Like Teen Sprit is a no brainer, one of the all time greats. Taxman gets the nod against Led Zep for me, but that was a tough call.

It would be boring if we all liked the same music.

Yes, and it wasn't easy for me. The winners could go far in this tournament.

    whole lotta love and taxman

I like nirvana well enough and teen spirit is a great song, but taxman just pips it at the post.
Twenty years ago Welcome to the jungle would have made it second to Zep, but GnR turn my stomach these days ... I can't exactly put my finger on why, but I can't stand to hear them anymore

    @mark winstanley
I used to be a Guns 'n' Roses fan. They don't really interest me anymore.
It is the same with Led Zeppelin. I now only like Houses Of The Holy.
I am still a big fan of The Beatles and Nirvana.

That's fair. It was a really close call for me between taxman and teen spirit ... I guess being one of the few Beatles songs to actually be a kick at authority, it stepped out of line with the old school "we can't sing about ...." mentality ... I am surprised Brian Epstein allowed it on the record, as my understanding was he was quite particular about what it was proper for a band to sing about ..... I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though
