Small Faces are a bit dated, Faces are timeless.

This. I saw Faces twice, big fun. Have come to appreciate Small Faces in recent years, but I'd go with Humble Pie for Steve, mostly.

The Small Faces are one of my top 10 favorite groups...........and it's too bad they don't get much recognition here (besides being an "Itchykoo Park" 1 hit wonder).

I guess I prefer The Faces. But here's my question: where do you all file the album "First Step"? Do you file it under Small Faces because that's who it's credited to, or do you file it under Faces 'cause Rod sings on it?:laugh:

Both were great, but two different bands and different music.

Small Faces by a mile. One of the coolest Mod/Psych bands of the 60s.

Impossible to choose - different settings, different decades, different agendas but both very good. Apples and Oranges.

It's definately a Faces album as the first UK issue says. "Small Faces" was a US afterthought.

I love both but it's Small Faces for me without a doubt.

As I type this, the vote's about 50-50, which is about right.

Small Faces for me. I like the Faces stuff, but the youthful energy and originality is with the early incarnation IMO.

    Small Faces.
I love The Faces but I feel that they were a little limited (the Marriot/Lane mojo had gone).

Hard to separate the fact that Rod developed into a bit of a jacka$$ in mid-course since, by all accounts, it was a bit of lead singer déjà vu for Plonk, Mac and Kenney. I'd call it a draw. Both line-ups created their share of classics but staggered to the finish line, as a result of their respective front man's peacock-like delusions of grandeur. If pressed, I'd go for the SF, although I never saw them live, and the early Faces tore it in concert.

A suggestion, have a listen to Five Guys box set and then the decision becomes a fair bit easier.

As long as Ronnie Lane is in the band, I'll take either.
