"Deja Vu" would like to deal with some of us.

That brings us to the final. Remember, you are still voting to eject a song, leaving your choice as the Stronger of these two standing.

Discussion question: What would your personal final pairing be on this album?

Thanks to all that played and commented in this game. Next up: Sab is going to switch from his Byrds series and run RADIO CITY by Big Star.

    3 Deja Vu
    4 Helpless
    5 Almost Cut My Hair
    6 4+20
    T7 Country Girl...
    T7 Teach Your Children
    T9 Our House
    T9 Everybody I Love You

DQ: Country Girl is my favorite track on the album by far. Paired with Deja Vu for
    the finale.

I voted to oust "Woodstock" in this, my ideal final. And I can't wait for the Radio City WL -- my favorite Big Star album.

Deja Vu and Country Girl are my two favs from this album. But I cant argue with Carry On being voted as the strongest.

I'm not particularly a Neil Young fan but Country Girl is my favorite too. I can't believe it got voted out as early as it did. My final pairing would have been Country Girl and Carry On.

I was shocked Deja Vu didn't make the final pairing. I am once again voting for Woodstock's departure -- always preferred the flip side of that single.

DQ: Carry On & Deja Vu.

I voted for 'Carry On' in this round. It's a decent song, (evidently the most popular on this album,) but its the only one I skip when I put this on.

my final pairing would have been 'Almost Cut My Hair' and 'Deja Vu.' I would have voted off 'Carry On' in round 2.

    Joni's original is light-years better.

    And she wasn't even there.

Oh well, at least this round will vote out correctly.

DQ: Deja Vu and either Neil track.

My final would have been "Teach Your Children" vs. either "Our House" or "Helpless."

I've been voting off "Woodstock" since the first round; I have always found CSNY's version awful, especially compared to my preferred version, by Matthews' Southern Comfort (a Top 10 hit on WFIL in Philadelphia in 1971, whereas the CSNY version from 1970 never made the WFIL chart, which had 30 spots on it).

A futile vote for Carry On, here.

My final would have Woodstock teaching Beat Your Children, er, beating Teach Your Children (sorry).

Out goes Woodstock. I actually love that song and their version is way better than the original, but since it's not an original CSNY track it must go.

DQ: Deja Vu and Carry On would've been my final two.

"Carry On" as the last song standing as if it were the best song on the album? Sorry, I can't hear it. IMO, quite a few better ones have already been voted out. I like "Carry On" much better in its live 13-minute jam incarnation on 4-Way Street, and it's not even the best song on THAT album.

Voted Woodstock out (to the dismay of Charlie Brown and Snoopy)

DQ: Probably as it turned out; title track is close.

Someone may have mentioned this in an earlier round, but as "Carry On" cruises to the win (we had no choice), I was thinking about Graham Nash's anecdote in Wild Tales:

About three quarters of the way through the Déjà Vu sessions, I cornered Stephen and said, "Our problem with this record is we don't have 'Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.'"

He looked at me as if I were nuts. "I know man -- we did it already."

I said, "No, we don't have what it represented -- a kicker, an opening track that stuns you and keeps you glued to the rest. I'm talking about what 'Suite' did for the first record. We don't have that song!"

David's contributions -- "Déjà Vu" and "I Almost Cut My Hair" -- weren't the "Suite" and neither were Neil's "Helpless" and "Country Girl". Nor was "Everybody I Love You", which Neil cowrote with Stephen. I knew "Teach Your Children" and "Our House" were going to be hits, but they were nowhere near the opener we needed to make a bold statement. The same thing with "Woodstock", which rocked out but lacked the necessary grabbing power.

The very next day, Stephen found me outside the Caravan Lodge Motel and said, "Hey Willy, remember yesterday how you were telling me we didn't have a great opening track? Well, listen to this." And he played "Carry On".

    Get the f*** outta here!

He'd gone back to his room and whipped out that song. All there, completely intact.

    Not bad, not bad.
