I'd personally want Metallica, to me, they are the best cover band. That band truly takes a song and makes it thier own.

Then I'd pick The Who, the R&B, and early rock covers would make any audience shake thier asses.

Finally I'd go with Paul McCartney, his covers of former bandmates songs, and early rock like Little Richard and Elvis would make me happy to hear.

Dionne Warwick is one of the queens of covers and will be at the party.

She will open for the start of cocktails, the quieter part of the party before the rowdy wild bunch arrive. Here she is doing a Bee Gees song which she turned into a hit.

When I saw the thread title Umphrey's McGee came to me immediately as probably my easiest answer to any question posed in a thread here, ever. It could only help that they are such good musicians with such a broad repertoire that they could probably play any on-the-spot requests into the bargain.

Rockpile, NRBQ, and CCR. I wish the results of these polls wouldn't always boil down to "which of these bands are the most famous".

Cheating, since I already added my 2 cents, but how ‘bout Elvis, Scotty & Bill, The Blue Moon Boys? The King has an open invitation to any of my parties.

None of the above.I’d want The Damned as Naz Nomad and The Nightmares doing the “Give Daddy The Knife,Cindy” 60’s garage cover album in it’s entirety!

From the list, Tom Petty, but I'd much rather have Dream Theater. I could hear covers of Yes, Rush, Dixie Dregs, and more.

Mr Wilson Pickett would rock the party with his soul covers of many songs/hits.

    LOL, LOL

Well I didn’t say it had to be a WILD party, barbecue, Beach party, pool party can be mellow.
Anyway, they could open the festivities .

BUT here, they show a perkier side and homage to their rock contemporaries in the 60’s. Dig it!

Ain’t nothin but a party with the J. Geils Band. And I’d love to have the early Plastic Ono Band bash through some oldies while Yoko screams (yes, I’m serious). Also, I’ll let the Faces in to my party in any incarnation, but I’d prefer them Small.

Not on the list, and since this thread isn’t really based in reality:

    • The Replacements
    • The Beatles (ripping through a fast and furious Hamburg era set...good thing I invited some lowlifes to my imaginary party to supply them with uppers)
    • The Standells...or maybe Chocolate Watchband
    • The Jam - playing a set of ‘60s soul and rock
