I guess David Cassidy doesn't count as rock?

If I break it down by years, it becomes a little more easy to calculate a “favorite” for me.

    Just very roughly....

    69-71: Daltrey
    71: Plant
    72-75: Osbourne
    75-76: Mercury
    76-82 Dio

I voted for Ozzy because in that run from 72-75 he was untouchable, IMO. His singing on Vol. 4, SBS and Sabotage is just out of this world. Dio arguably had a longer run of stunning brilliance but oddly he isn’t on the list and I wasn’t going to vote “other”.

Strange poll choices. The OP could really only come up with the names of 14 rock singers (out of the maximum 25 allowed poll choices)?

My favorite male vocalist is Sammy Hagar. The runner up would be Rob Halford.
My favorite female rock vocalist would be Ann Wilson. The runner up would be Cristina Scabbia.

Joe Elliott? As an option on a “best singers” poll?

I would’ve voted for Johnette Napolitano if she was on the list.

The case for Ozzy: not one bad vocal performance laid down on the original Sabbath albums--nothing lackluster or cringe-inducing (which can't be said for some of the other big names), just consistently unique and emotive.

    (Live is a different matter).

Make a tournament. 25 singers in each group. Multiple votes. Top 5 to the next round etc. etc.

I think there is a reason why the OP put the word "Rock" in " , as far as I understand this thread is not about your favourite male/female vocalists - of course you could start a new tiresome argument (God forbid) here what is rock and what is not but I wouldn't put either Peter or Kate (or lots of others that have been mentioned )in the "rock"category
P.S. nice photo of Kate though
P.P.S. from the list I would go for U.F.O.'s Phil Mogg , always have liked his voice , but there are some glaring omissions e.g. Mick Jagger or Jim Morrison (and I had to look up a couple from the list)

I could of chose "other" since my true all time favorite is John Lennon.....
Instead I chose my #2 all time favorite, Robert Plant...

Mixing a little of genres and eras in the choices, but that kind of made it interesting.
The choices do indeed all rock, that they have in common....

I think Peter Gabriel sang rock music with Genesis, at least.

As I said I am the last person who would want to go into an argument about what is rock and what isn't but judging from the OP's list I think he was looking for rock / hard rock singers . But up to the OP really to comment on this ,I'm just speculating here.

    P.S.
No offence but this is just another sloppy poll if you ask me

    Yo,

Not a bad list, as it was very hard to choose just one...I always knew that Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant & Freddie would do well, but folks like Ian Gillan are every-bit as good entertainers & singers IMO, & hence he gets my vote. Special mention to David Coverdale too.

I'm quite surprised that Ozzy hasn't picked-up more votes, but it is early...

    Ciao,

    Gregster
