Would Rush Power Windows qualify? I just received a copy today in the mail that says Polygram and made in West Germany.

 

Only releases for labels not in the PolyGram group have a 289x matrix code similar to DIDX for non CBS labels.

 

But wasn't it in 1989 (and not before) when A&M was bought by Polygram?

 

That is correct. I'm not sure but it seems there was some arrangement before 1989. The cat# are also PolyGram related.
I have the first edition of Sting's "The Dream of the blue Turtles in smooth jewel case but no special matrix code: 393 750-2 01 *

CD manufacturer ICM Switzerland was supported by Polygram.
It used a similar code 1124 xxx yy and later 1125 xxx yy
Could be that some releases mastered by Polygram were repressed by ICM (and made in Switzerland).
Many releases were also repressed by PDO.

Interesting. Some of these releases will have more than one matrix. For example, both Christopher Cross albums have an 01 and 02 matrix version. Sometimes, the same matrix was used for releases under different labels. For example Genesis's Abacab was released as a Vertigo blue swirl, Atlantic target, and Virgin blue face disc with the matrix 800044 2 01.
