I see. Well, you do have the sub and your room is small, so that's cool.

I just can't help thinking what that 402 can do with a pair of big floorstanders, plus the sub.

Anyone here have that combo? If you do, I'll be over for dinner. :D

Some people value imaging over slam (myself among them). Although in this case I doubt he is giving up much slam either.

Bookshelfs can be very nice... This room is very small for such a heavy duty Mac selection, so bookshelf with their low imedance are the right choice.

Very nice looking system. Would you mind telling us what percentage of the time you listen to sacds/cds vs. vinyl?

  20. I can think of one thing that will make your system rack a lot happier . . . well, more fully, anyway . . . a turntable!

I think Captain Reg would also need a phono stage, as I don't believe the NAD Master Series M3 integrated amplifier has a phono stage. Of course, he'd need some records too. ;)

  22. Yeah, I was just looking at that empty top shelf and thinking how nice a decent turntable would look there. Plus, that Beatles print implies he's a Beatles fan, and if he's a Beatles fan, he's gotta hear them on vinyl!

Billy, you were reading my mind. That's my next step.....Any suggestions for a good turntable and phono stage?

  24. Here's mine. It consists of dedicated 2 channel, 5.1 music and 7.1 movie surround systems. The main speakers are the incredible SP Tech Revelations, and the center and music surrounds are the SP Tech Continuum AD's (center and each surround on a custom Sound Anchor stand). Each of these have a custom external Mundorf-based crossover box. The mains are driven by a Spectron Musician III Mark 2 amplifier, and the center by a McCormack DNA-1.

When I listen to 7.1 movies I use a separate surround amp (Anthem PVA 5) instead of the music surround amp (McCormack DNA-125). The sides and rears in movie mode are the wall-hung Alon Centris dipole surrounds.

Sources (on the forward audio tower) include a Modwright tube-modded Transporter, a Modwright Denon 3910 universal, and a Rega P5 tt. Each is driven through a custom Modwright dual mono 2 box LS 36.5 tubed preamp. The HT bypass on the preamp is fed by the front l/r's from the Onkyo Pro 885 processor (housed on the video tower). the processor handles all current audio codecs through a Samnsung Blu-Ray player, an Oppo 980 DVD/SACD/DVD-A plyer and a SA8100 HD cable box. The HDMI from each is controlled by the Onkyo Pro 885 and ultimately sent to a Samsung H710 DLP projector, and projected on a Stewart Studiotek 110" 16:9 screen (behind the drapes). All ac is conditioned by Adept Response conditioners (AR12 and dual AR1P's). Cables include Synergistic Research Tesla Accelerators, Stealth Audio Nanofibers, Soundstring, Lessloss and Black Sand. Over a dozen RealTrap basstraps, dual diffusors and 4 First Reflection Zone traps are used throughout, along with ASC Tube traps (1987 vintage).
