I should have mentioned, that couch is usually back another 2~ feet, haha. Still nearfield territory probably...but I very much like the sound. My ears are about 6.5 feet from the speakers in my usual listening position.

I'm in the same boat. My room is only 10x10 (not acoustically friendly, I know) and i sit about 6 feet away from my speakers and 2 ft from the back wall. Speakers are about 2 feet from front wall. I've made the most of it by using acoustic treatments on front and back walls as well as side spots. I'm thrilled with having a standalone listening room, and maybe someday when my youngest leaves the house I'll take over a bigger room. But to me, it sounds amazing as is.

Yikes! I thought I was cutting it close by being about 8.5" away! Can't imagine being that close. If anything, I'd like to have an additional 2 feet behind me but since that won't happen, this is as good as it's going to get in this house.

Why not get front-ported speakers and back them up much more? That would give you more room. :)

Okay I have to ask...what is the purpose of a lamp right above the turntable?

Folks over and we haven’t given it much thought. Looks ok with other lighting in here.

Hi everyone. I'm sorry for the potentially foolish question, but I'm not sure I understand why these lamps are used. I never have had a problem doing the needle drop in my room. Do people prefer a dark room other than the turntable light?

I prefer a light over my turntable so I can see what I am doing. The room lighting is over my shoulder when attending to the turntable.
It also just looks nice. Kinda like having a light over a niece painting hung on the wall.

Yeap, with dwindling eyesight, I certainly most like to see where I'm dropping the needle.
Especially on a 45 bender and a few beverages....

Not for me, my room lighting has always been sufficient.

I recently purchased this LED light from Amazon. Someone on the forum had recommended it. I like it a lot and wanted to say thanks. It also doubles as a headphone stand.

A cheap Harte lamp from IKEA. It's a shame the framework base doesn't fit under the plinth but there is lots of space on this gargantuan shelf!
I forgot how a lamp shows you every fleck of dust and imperfection.

Still using my Target lamp in the living room, though my setup has changed since the last time I posted.

And I still have the cheap mid-century modern copy in the office.
