Hey, I always wanted Stephen King to write a sequel to the book- given how it's sort of left hanging if they really did get rid of Pennywise as adults, I would have liked to have seen what would have happened twenty seven years after that (in the case of the book, that would have been 2012)
You could probably make a half decent standalone film(s) simply based on the stories Mike Hanlon tells in his diary entries- the Bradley Gang, the Black Spot etc (I know the fire at the Black Spot sequence was cut from the film)

Okay, there's a movie coming out called "Geostorm".

    That's right -- a movie named after a cheap '90s car.

    I predict engine trouble.

Did anyone see the trailer for Wilde Wedding?

OMG, what a turkey! What a horrendous waste of talent. Once you get past the ridiculous rug Patrick Stewart is wearing, you see a bunch of dramatic actors trying to 'get' comic timing.

I saw the commercial for the new Jackie Chan movie. Looked interesting.

Basically looks as terrible as the similarly-themed and scientifically-dubious The Day After Tomorrow.

Getting decidedly mediocre reviews. Currently 50% on RT. The most common word I'm seeing across a lot of reviews is "bloated." I was planning on seeing it tonight, but I'm taking a hard pass.

I'll still see it, but expectations have lowered. I loved the first movie so I gotta give the sequel a shot!

Besides, critical consensus is overrated. "A Ghost Story" got 92% on RT and it's maybe the most pointless/boring movie I've ever seen!

Yep. I'm seeing Kingsman 2 tomorrow, regardless of current RT ratings. I too loved the first one, though I have a feeling this one will be like the first one but on steroids and possibly overblown. If it entertains with the same type of action and humor as the first one, I will like it.

loved the first one will watch the 2nd no matter what they say...and the more negative reviews will make me want to watch it even more...

Just got back from seeing Kingsman: The Golden Circle. If you liked the first one, you should like this one too. Elton John was a hoot in it and played himself.

See the thread "The Last Movie You Watched Was...? (Take 5)" for my thoughts about the movie.

He seems to be focusing on remaking his earlier films. Many of them have aged badly.

If so, he can leave The Dead Zone and Christine alone then- those two are IMO the best of a decidedly bad lot.

  17. I haven't seen it since it first came out on VHS, but I recall it as a lame low-budget adaptation. The book was actually pretty solid, if you buy into the premise of course.

Wasn't there a remake of Carrie a few years ago? The original film was one of the better adaptations of King's novels, the remake was totally unnecessary as far as I'm concerned.

I don't have an issue with remaking all of his old TV miniseries adaptations as films, if they can work as 2 or 3 part films. Obviously "It" succeeded. I wonder if the same could be done with "The Stand".

I would like to see a multi-part film series adaptation of Salem's Lot. I loved the made-for-TV miniseries with David Soul and Lance Kerwin. Imagine what a good director with a big budget could do.

  21. The Carrie remake was dreadfully bad despite the screen talent involved.

The Carrie remake followed the book and isn’t as good as the DePalma film. Like The Shining, sometimes following the book isn’t to its benefit. The Stand would definitely work better as a movie series.

Firestarter is being redone. I rewatched the movie again after almost 30 years and it’s awful. I think Pet Semetary is also being remade, though the movie still holds up ok.

Dead Zone doesn’t need a remake. Christine was decent.
