Well, there is Edsel written on the box, what did you expect?

Are there any 'forum-approved' CD versions of the Pretenders catalogue?

    amazon.coM.uk = ?

I can't find that bad review on either amazon.com or amazon.co.uk

Where is it? (is it for their first album?) and what does it say?

I recommend the MFSL for the debut... for all others listen to the originals!

Same here. I like the MFSL Learning to Crawl too, but not enough to prefer it.

By 'originals' do you mean the first CD releases? Which year? Which label?

Re the MFSL, they also did Pretenders II....is that good also?

The review is disappointing. I was under the impression that they were going to use the same mastering as the Rhinos.

I also bought it for the b-sides and the videos, and I'm keeping my original cds, so no huge disappointment if the sound is patchy. Most times it's lost on me when people venture into dynamic range speak anyway. I'm like Forrest Gump when it comes to that.

Nothing wrong with the original cd of the 1st album either, especially the target. These albums didn't need the dynamics squashed out of them. I don't care what anybody says - I'm convinced it's the prevalence of "portable listening devices" that causes this type of mastering. You can't blame it on "everyone wants their record to sound the loudest on radio" anymore because these cds will never be played on the radio!

I wish for once someone would approach one of these people that master like this and calmly ask them why they do this. It can't be "Chrissie asked me to suck all the life and dynamics out of all her recorded output" so that's why I did it. I know McCartney famously requested that for Memory Almost Full but he could have been hoping for bombastic radio play. That can't be the case for these deluxe reissues. What is it??!!

    Hello everybody ---
It seems Edsel has acknowledged a fault in the Isle of View DVD released with the new reissue. Apparently, they are now looking into it.
    Jeeezz...

I read somewhere, AmazonUK I think in a review that the sound drops out on this one. Yep - here it is :

"With regard to the (Region free) DVDs, the material is mostly Promo Videos and BBC Sessions, and it's quite good overall, but with the occasional major tumble, like the awful audio to the Isle of View DVD, with the signal on the left channel going off and on, a problem which doesn't plague my old Warner copy."

This seems to happen so often these days, poor quality control - a by-product of downsizing, as in not having anyone on the payroll to actually listen/watch to these things front to back looking for errors like this?

On the other hand I actually feel a bit sorry for them - it's hard enough to squeeze a profit out of physical releases these days - when you have to press up more dvds or cds to mail out to everyone that requests one to replace their faulty copies gratis it must put a hurt on that bottom line.

The first three albums on MFSL SACD are all good and I recommend them.
At the very least they sound as good as the originals, and maybe a tad better.

Things get spotty after the third album for me, the two deluxe sets from a few years back is all I needed from them and maybe a nice comp, after that..

Did really things get spotty after the 3rd album?... I don't think so.
¡Viva El Amor! has not a single weak song in it (well, maybe "Dragway 42"), something I've rarely seen since or before The Beatles, and the Isle of View is possibly the best pop album+strings ever

Not too many reviews here yet - I thought quite a few members bought the box or at least some of these.
