Taking the next step beyond the Trad Gras och Stenar and Parson Sound box sets: A deeper dive into early Swedish psych.
I just gave the first two Captain Beyond albums a try for the first time. I wasn't particularly impressed with the albums, but I absolutely love the song "Sufficiently Breathless." There is just something really strange about that track that I really like, but I can't put my finger on it.
A lot of the stuff in this thread is, of course, some of the awesome psychy stuff of 'yore' but I think there's so much great 'newer' stuff too and discovering it is a real thrill. Here's some recent things that I adore (apologies for just listing bands). They tend to the krautrock end of psychedelia. Anyone aware of any of the following (recognizing that Hills and Cloudland Canyon - and maybe Julie's Haircut - are probably better known than the rest)? Hypnodrone Ensemble Caudal Minami Deutsch The Legendary Flower Punk Electric Orange Electric Octopus Weltraum Ether The Thin Blue Line Fever Knife Hills Cloudland Canyon Kairon, IRSE! Gnoomes Le Reveil Des Tropiques Julie's Haircut Korai Orom Krokofant Baikonour ... plus a ton more. Such great music.
Add.... "My Brother the Wind" "My Sleeping Karma" "Øresund Space Collective" "We Own The Sky" "Holy Monitor" "Shaman Elephant" "Cyanna Mercury" "No Man's Valley" To the list of contemporary bands worth checking out
Well, a fairly longstanding convert at this point since my post was from almost 3 years ago now! Since then I've gotten all the studio albums, several live albums, plus the Starless box and the On (and off) The Road box. The Wetton/Bruford era is probably my favorite, but I'm also a huge fan of the first lineup and the Belew era. The other stuff is pretty great too. As for my "now playing," this week the first Patto album has been in pretty heavy rotation. "The Man" knocks me out every time! Simon
It took seeing Belew play live to make me realize how talented he was. I mean freaking awesome! Bruford / Wetton era's my favorite, but dam if B & B ain't a very close second! Lol damn I love this band. I mean there's no slouch in the first 4 either! Start to finish amazing! Peace, Iam
Rolf ripped his artists off releasing music the band's had no idea he was doing this. Then Rolf hooked up with Timothy Leary and it all went south.
