From the Mailing list this morning....

"PiL are also set to re-issue legendary albums ‘Metal Box’ and ‘Album’ as super-deluxe box sets via Universal UMC in October 2016. More information to follow…"

Metal Box (if issued as "vinyls") has got to be 45 rpm, as it was originally cut in its first incarnation. The bass on those recordings simply require it. I wonder what else would be included in such a deluxe edition? Even more 12" 45s? Bring it!

Hasn't "Metal Box" been reissued a number of times already? What would be available to make a "super deluxe" box of that one?

Only with the same 12 tracks....who knows what they have in the vaults!

They could add a DVD of TV clips like the OGWT, TOTP and any US shows.

There is the Peel session and the 12" and 7" single versions/b-sides.

I don't know but some people claim that the Metal Box edition is a different mix to second edition, but that could just be the sonics of the pressing.

The real draw will be if they recreate the original vinyl version.

Yeah, at long last! "Metal Box" finally mastered from digital and pressed in Czech!! Should have called it "Third (Rate) Edition"!!!

I'm hoping that 'Metal Box' has more than just the Peel tracks (already issued on the 'Plastic Box' set) and I can't even imagine what 'Album' might add. At least 'Album' I've only ever bought once (as ' Compact Disc') - 'Metal Box' I've bought too often already.

Potentially, a deluxe 'This Is What You Want' set could include the original 'Commercial Zone' LP and a DVD of both Japanese videocassettes. Did anyone ever film any live material from 1979?

I want a vinyl reissue of the original Metal Box done with the original stampers. None of this 4MWB nonsense.

I'd like the Metal Box deluxe to include an expanded (i.e. - complete show) disc of the Paris in the Spring live album, or any other shows if they have them???

I bought an original UK Second Edition (2 LPs, no metal box) not long ago, it sounds spectacular.

Album is one of my favorite all time records. I too wonder what's available from that era. It was a pieced together studio band at that point. I've bought every type of media for that one and have the picture disc Back to Black vinyl which I actually like quite a bit. Lydon talked about jamming with Miles Davis around that time. Maybe there's some proof of that on tape?

I've got one also, but Metal Box has a unique mastering that is simply out of this world.

As I mentioned before in some other post, I heard the never-released Warner Bros US version of the first PiL album, with almost entirely different recordings of that material, minus a song or tow, plus a new song or two. This would make excellent bonus material for a super deluxe edition, plus there are some alternate 12" and 7" mixes, at least one compilation tracks (from "Machines") and quite a lot of outtakes and alternate versions which have been bootlegged and can be found on YouTube. There's probably enough for six CDs, so here's hoping!

They're the only PiL albums I own.
Actually, I own CASSETTE and the Japanese mini-LP SHM-CD version (in a real tin can) of METAL BOX and the Japanese SHM-SACD of SECOND EDITION.
I've never played either of the Japanese discs because I can't seem to remember which one's supposed to be the best sounding of the two ... Someday I'll play 'em and find out.

There are a few 12" promo mixes from Album like Rise remix / Inst. (superior to the LP version) which could make a nice addition.

Who gives a toss about a Metal Box 12" reissue, there's no way they will ever be able to replicate it's monumental sound. You got the original, you got it.

However, to finally own Memories 12" on CD would be nice. It kills the Box version.

Bob Clearmountain did a couple remixes from Album, Rise and I think Home, on Greatest Hits. Not sure if those were also issued on a 12".

Yes I have Rise. The instrumental Rise is just awesome.

RISE (aka 12" Single) / RISE (INSTRUMENTAL)

VIRGIN VS 841 12 (1/86) Both are remixes. The A side was included on Greatest Hits so Far

HOME (LP VERSION ) / ROUND / HOME (7" EDIT)

VIRGIN VS 855 12 (4/86) The only interest is the 7" edit.

Even with the extras and a limited signed piece of paper, these sets are wayyy over-priced. I'd rather buy an original analogue pressing for those prices frankly.

'Swan Lake' (monitor mix) is not listed as unreleased. Possibly the same track as the 'Death Disco' on the Lydon 'One Pound Notes' DVD?

  23. So just for clarification's sake, it does NOT look like they are doing Metal Box as 3 12inch 45rpm. It looks like an expensive Second Edition. ALso they don't say if the vinyl is sourced from analog for either set. They are nice enough to give a full download for the vinyl.

The CD boxes are somewhat more reasonably priced. I'll get these.

I also hopr there's an eventual deluxe edition of the 1st album......................and Flowers Of Romance.
