    Hey i like Roger!

    Drowse
Is one of my all-time favourite Queen songs of all-time. :D

Actually I came across a bit harsh, the song's not too bad. It's just that it's in totally the wrong place. I don't think the song goes with the rest of the album and kinda ruins the flow for me.

To hear that loud thump at the beginning after the lovely acoustic fade-out of Someday One Day is a bit of a shock, like being woken from sleep with a bucket of ice-cold water! :yikes:

Not everyone's cup of tea I guess.
You've given me an idea...to segue Someday One Day into Ogre Battle...sounds good (in my head)

I removed the song and inserted My Fairy King from their first album. It better fits the theme of the album and is a great tune too! :D

Good call, I love 'My fairy king', it would easily fit on Queen II, though I can imagine there being mystical overload!

He also loved The Who. There's a photo of him from 1969 holding a copy of Tommy.

I've said this before, but I wish Roger had written Drowse a few years earlier...It would have been perfect in place of Loser in the End.

The first two Queen albums are my favorites! To me it sounds nearly like concept albums, (not just the black and white sides but) relations to mythology.
Freddie was very interested in that stuff and the songs' lyrics tell stories about kingdoms, fairy tales, etc. So beautiful. Probably the origin from where the band got its name.
Before the debut album's release Freddie still used his original name Bulsara on recording sheets, contracts and stuff but soon he adopted the word 'Mercury' as surname, taken from his song 'My Fairy King'.

The 'Kingdom Of Rhye' era! Too bad it ended in the song 'Lily Of The Valley' on Sheer Heart Attack...

I made a compilation of all Rhye related songs long time ago, called Fairy Queen.

There were several Smile songs the band tried out to record for their first album.
Sad they didn't work further on 'Polar Bear'. But glad 'Doing All Right' made the cut. They even played the song live around 1977!

Hard to decide. I love the whole album, but 'Keep Yourself Alive', 'Doing All Right', 'My Fairy King' and 'The Night Comes Down' could be my faves on it.^^

'Mad The Swine' was originally planned to be placed between 'Great King Rat' and 'My Fairy King', but the band (and probably Roy T Baker as well) didn't like the drum sound of it.

Everytime I do the mistake and don't read the whole page before adding an own comment.

    Thanks for the thread!

I gave Queen II a listen tonight and was surprised to find that I like it quite a bit more than the debut. (I had recalled it was the other way around the last time I listened.)

My favorite song on Queen II, with 'Father To Son', 'White Queen', 'The Fairy-Feller's Master-Stroke' and 'March Of The Black Queen'.
By the way, I (and hopefully many others here and there) were surprised that the band indeed performed 'The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke' live at the Rainbow in 1974. Such a rarity.

Yep. A bummer. "Mad the Swine" is a cool song. But then it just would have made Side 1 even that much more lop-siddingly better than Side 2.

I first heard Queen when Bohemian Rhapsody was released. My older brother bought A Night At the Opera and I loved every track. When I was a little older and had my own money I was able to buy Queen 2, and loved it immeduately. Ive been playing this Lp for 40 years and still love it (well I've gone through a few different versions trying to get one which didn't sound like the drums were playing in the next studio, to no avail).

Still my favourite Queen album, and would be in my top 10 of all time.

Queen II is an excellent record, one of my favorite Queen records, a great epic record. It's funny, I'm not huge into prog, but Queen's take on prog I dig. By far my favorite track is "Ogre Battle", but I love "Father to Son", "White Queen", "Nevermore", and of course "Seven Seas".
