Anyone know if there ever was a true stereo mix of the correct long version of this song?

    Thanks!

    Steve,

My original 45 was Stereo but, by your question, there is probably more too it than that or was the 45 edited?

Yes, although I believe every stereo mix is very narrow.

It seems to me there's a Polydor CD out there with both the single and LP versions in stereo (albeit narrow). I don't have the info handy, though.

    Steve, Luke:

I agree with Luke's observations--very narrow Stereo mix, big center impact.

According to the AMG, the LP version is about 4 minutes and the single version is about a minute shorter. I haven't heard it myself to comment on stereo/mono/fake stereo. The only version I have is on a "70s Smash Hits" compilation that I have not listened to in ages and don't have handy.

    Regards,

I have the original Candian LP release. The sound is somewhat narrow but dynamic. One of the best "Protest" songs ever, and a major AM hit in NYC!

I hope Steve's question was professionally related....:) I'd love to have you master this band, Steve!
