    Guys,

This track has always had some level of mystery surrounding it. I know it was originally released on Dynavoice [I bought the original 45] and it was produced by Bob Crewe. After that, the rest is rumor. Supposedly this moderate hit was recorded in Chicago, live in the studio during the middle of the night during an actual party. Allegedly, Mike Bloomfield plays the guitar licks. Beyond that, I do not know much more about this record such as who the lead singer was.

On CD the sound never quite captures the sound of the 45 which had a different EQ curve [more bottom]. As I recall, the 45 was cut very hot. This track was very big in certain parts of the country while it barely dented the charts in other areas of the country.

Anybody have more information on this fun vintage hit?

    Thanks,

    Bob:)

Hi Bob, boy, I've never heard of this tune. Must not have gotten any play in Baltimore. Did it make the Top 100?

I'm sure it did make the lower half of the Hot 100 but, I do not have specific chart information available here...

As I recall, it rose quickly up the charts and then disappeared. I know that Chip is familar with this one...

    Hi Bob,

As you know, "She Comes To Me" got a lot of play here in Dallas on KLIF (it hit #13 in Dec. '66) ... from the liner notes of "Bob Crewe Presents The DynoVoice Story" Westside (2001) ... "No doubt envisaged as the Windy City equivalent of the Detroit Wheels, The Chicago Loop took their update of the Coasters' '(When She Needs Good Lovin') She Comes To Me' into the Top 40 late in 1966. The group included famous guitarist Stefan Grossman in their ranks." ...

Will look around and see if I have any more info ...

A better question is: Would you want to?

I don't recall them either. There are a few others I don't think I heard back then.

    Sandy Posey! Sheesh...

Sad. I know more people on that chart than I do on the recent one. And I was born in '69!

Let's see. First I didn't have wheels yet so I didn't do a LOT of radio listening then but friends did and told me things. My collection at the time was really taking off so I mainly listened to my records rather than the radio. I was working so my "days" were filled, so to speak.

    #15, 16 & 18 - If I ever heard these I would have changed the station! I don't recall them.

    #29, 32, 35, 36 & 40.

Definately a "variety" station where a very wide demo was working for this station. If there was a female vocalist with a very soft image, she could get the same coverage on charts (especially if the station needed a new roof and didn't know how to cover it)...

Motown, Garage and easy listening. All groovy. "Tiny Bubbles" by Don Ho supposedly charted high! Bob?

Cryin Shames at No. 6? Who'da thunk!

    Mud,

    *15. 35 Coming On Strong - Brenda Lee - Decca 8

Mid-tempo ballad - pretty snappy record

    *16. 21 Single Girl - Sandy Posey - MGM 4

Sort of an early Womens Lib song - a predecessor to "I Am Woman' By Helen Reddy

    *18. 26 Spanish Nites - Connie Francis - MGM 6

An unmemorable Pop record - I barely recall it!

    *32. -- Grizzly Bear - Youngbloods - RCA 4

Their first chart hit, as I recall. Fun record that I still enjoy.

    *40. -- Just One Smile - Gene Pitney - Musicor 6

I recall this in seeing the title on charts, to be honest. Most likely a ballad...

    Sckott,

I never understood the popularity of 'Tiny Bubbles' but, people liked it. The Cryan' Shames were from Chicago and their hits were always big sellers there. The beauty of this chart is the wide variety.

We have to remember that back in that time, people of all ages purchased 45's...

    Ooh...please!:(

That is a fantastic Gene Pitney song. One of many Pitney songs seemingly used as the "template" for Los Bravos's Black Is Black.

Poor Gene! He has to go overseas to find an audience. One of the great mysteries (to me) is why he is SO overlooked in the U.S.

Just one smile, the pains forgiven...

Just one touch, the hurts all gone...

    Hi Bob,

The above was more of a **sigh** posting. I didn't mean it to sound so "How come you don't know this!" It appears stronger than I meant it to be.

Bob, I read ALL the postings on these songs from this era/genre. Maybe I'll post once in a while, eh? Hope to get cable connection in the near future. Dial-up ain't cuttin' it! It takes forever to read all the threads here.
