Not surprised by the live show (obviously) but Disc 3 looks interesting. Devil Rides Backwards is a title that has been tossed around for years so I look forward to hearing that.

There's also a photo up on Amazon Germany along with a date (Nov 10) - https://www.amazon.de/Automatic-People-Ltd-3cd-Blu-Ray-Boxset/dp/B075K343CP/
Almost €95 for 4 discs is nuts though. I'll wait until it's halved in price before even considering it.

1 LP vinyl is here too - R.E.M.: Automatic For The People (1LP) (LP) – jpc

Buck said a DLO reissue wasn't happening. It would be nice to have the digital/streaming B-side box sets in physical form. They can all be in one box even, now that UMe has hold over the entire catalogue.

Thamks! Nothing to complain about for me (except to echo studio B-sides). Since I have the 40-Watt Club Monster-era b-sides there's significant duplication, but I think it's an essential companion to this album. I'm glad they included the Bowie cover (I believe all covers were omitted from previous deluxe sets). Being that it is basically part of a medley may have something to do with it. That two songs from that show are included that weren't on the single is great for those of us with those singles, too. Back in the Stone Age I had a bootleg cassette. One of my favorite moments was when Stipe began singing an extra chorus after the band stopped Man on the Moon. That was edited out from the singles. I do hope that bits like that are restored.

As to the demos, I can't wait. Sure, they may not be exciting but I'll take any morsel. And I'm genuinely excited to hear the Photograph demo. Regarding that song, I'm also glad it's appended to the DVD/Blu.

The Blu is exciting. Even if you don't have ATMOS (I don't) this may mean it's a unique mix and not a third go around for the Scheiner surround. Since ATMOS, I believe, has a 7.1 core, those of us with a few extra speakers may benefit a bit more, too. That is, however, going to lead to my one gripe: I'd have loved to hear their contemporaneous cover of Leonard Cohen's First We Take Manhattan in surround. No biggie, but in my own playlist for the album I always listen to that in place of Ignorelamd. Well, in 2017 I've listened to Ignoreland a lot more but, uh, redacted. All the more this is a welcome release that's brightened my day, week, or more.

I have DLO on vinyl, but a vinyl box of REM's complete b-sides would be worth considering, although it'd take a lot of LP's to really get everything. I'd prefer they skip the redundant live b-sides and just compile actual new songs and soundtrack/compilation appearances, maybe with some of the acoustic versions...put them in an order that makes sense as an album listen, and it'd be a really nice package.

I'm not interested in the CD as I'm happy with my original copy but I'm hoping the vinyl will be well mastered & cut. Looking forward to this release!

I just realized that I have this on DVD-A and on dualdisc as well. I don't think I've listened to the dualdisc - is it the same mox as the DVD-A, but lower resolution?

I doubt they did a Dolby Atmos mix. It is probably the same 5.1 mix from the DVD-Audio.

It is fairly new. A few Blu-rays have it, and several UHD Blu-rays have it. It is a step up from Dolby TrueHD, or at least it is supposed to be.

After Queen's super deluxe version of NOTW another massively overpriced cash grab. Honestly, what are they thinking? Take a look at Marillion's 4CD+BD version of Misplaced Childhood and compare prices!

And what do we get? The album without bonus tracks. A live concert everyone already has (either as bootleg or on the Monster MCD's) and the usual demo stuff - and on top of all this the famous R.E.M. Deluxe Edition Brickwall Mess Mastering.

Please shoot the guy who invented the concept of super deluxe edition ...

I know, but it doesn't mean that something similar shouldn't happen. I don't know what Peter has against Dead Letter Office -- when I bought it new in 1987, I didn't have any of the singles, so it was basically a new R.E.M. album to me. Loved it then, and it still holds together now.

Me too. I made my own on CDR once that had the best of the OOT / Automatic / Monster / Hi-Fi b-sides -- and it was as good as any regular album!

  22. The Hud

The Hud Seventh Hud of a Seventh Hud

I never bought any of the CD singles for some reason. I do have The Automatic Box, and the 2 disc version of In Time, so I have a few of the b-sides.

Are there any that I am missing that stand out to you?

I would have to compare track lists to remember, but I know that a bunch of them from the Automatic Box are NOT on the greatest hits bonus CD. I stupidly ripped the files from the Automatic Box and then got rid of the box.

I feel like I am often the one asking what the cutting source is and most people buying vinyl, even around here anymore, don't care. Any chance for all analog? Because my CD sounds good enough if it's digital.
