I always wanted to give Dave the benefit of the doubt and believe that he was innocent. Sometimes people are setup so who knows what happened. Putting that aside, I thought he was a solid drummer. By the time he joined Priest, they were streamlining their sound and he was a good fit for what they were doing. My favorite Priest has always been their 70’s stuff though. But they did have some really good stuff on those 80’s albums.

RIP Dave. Thanks for the music.

Sad news. He was amazing in Trapeze, and he was a very solid drummer in Judas Priest. He got the job done, and played on many of their best albums. RIP.

    I totally believe his innocence.

And if you hear Dave in a very different way check this one out! Groovy as hell.

The Stones are my favorite band, so I kinda got what they were saying. I took that to mean he was steady and unspectacular. In other words, the opposite of Keith Moon.

I was gutted when Priest had replaced such a class drummer as Les Binks with an unremarkable player but, being a fan, I grew to like a little of his stuff with Priest.
His best playing IMO was on Glenn Hughes' Play Me Out album. I haven't heard the records he made with Justin Hayward.

He also played on an album with Tony Iommi “ The DEP Sessions” but was removed when he was convicted. He is on the original demo of it called Eighth Star.

The re-recorded drums on the DEP Sessions were a major letdown. Jimmy Copley's drumming I found was a little thin sounding if not bright at the same time. Dave Holland on the other hand, despite his conviction was a solid drummer. Always loved how his drumming opened up Rapid Fire from British Steel. And not forgetting those classic Trapeze albums too - RIP (I too hope he was innocent all along)

Nah, he played on the Fused album.

  18. For his drumming skills in the band that gave us so much tremendous music . . . Rest In Peace.

Was the whole album drum machines or just a few tracks?

Half to all of the album per online sources. Turbo probably has some too.

Yeah his role started to diminish by Defenders of the Faith. Lots of triggers and overdubs on that over the basic tracks. Surprised they waited 4 years to boot him.

I think his drumming sounds awesome on "Screaming for Vengeance"... but really diminishes on "Defenders"... partly due to the studio technology/production of the time... but drums sound so much weaker.

He wasn't that old. Dang. RIP. I will say that his drumming always improved on each record. SfV is a great one.

Wasn't that the album where they used a drum-computer instead of Holland?
