Very sad news indeed. He never took him self too seriously and did a tremendous amount of great work for children's charities across the globe.

    Rest in peace

    Peace and love✌

The first Bond I remember. I grew to prefer Connery and Craig, but Roger will always be the guy I picture first when someone says "James Bond". Just recently watched the Spy who loved me and listened to Roger's commentary track. A great orator and story teller.

A gentleman's gentleman. Rest in Peace ,Sir Roger Moore.

Classy Guy, saddled with some atrocious scripts, my favorite bond movies of his were the last 3 he did.

    Sad news.
I only liked him as The Saint because he was more relaxed and put more humour into the role. As Bond, he looked too wooden and even uncomfortable (and the films were lousy).
    RIP

A true gentleman. Came here to post this image, only to find the still right above. Another sad 24 hours that raise one's eyebrows

RIP To a fine actor with good comic sensibilities and a class act. An excellent Bond but I really loved him as The Saint.

Roger accompanied Frank Sinatra on his Summer tour through Italy in 1987. At each concert, Mr. S would say "He's Here! He's Here!!!" and say "0-0-7" in Italian. The audiences would erupt in applause as he had Roger stand up and take a bow. It was really something to see...

Live and Let Die is one of the few Bond movies I have any time for. I know he wasn't the world's best actor, but in The Saint, I always thought he was one of the coolest. In interviews, he came across as an extremely personable, warm, funny, generous and self-deprecating man - or maybe I should say, gentleman. A dying breed. RIP, Roger, a white night, a Saint and a bit of a Maverick, too.

He was the James Bond I watched growing up. To me, he WAS Bond.

My uncle worked on set and socialised off set with Roger Moore, when he was the sound recordist on three of the Bond films. If anyone needs confirmation as to the standing of the man amoung those he worked with, you need go no further than my uncle's smile as he told anecdotes from life on location with one of his favourite unstarry star actors.

I just checked the link above and changed my post. It was two films they worked on together, but my uncle also did the first Timothy Dalton Bond movie.
Roger Moore was so down to earth and was completely relaxed in the company of the technical crew. My uncle told us that he was often more interested in what the sound team were doing than other actors. It might make sense because acting as such wasn't his forté or passion, but he had looks and a very strong and distinctive spoken voice.
Unfortunately, my uncle died in 1988 and they didn't work together again.
Sorry this seems to be flowing out of me and is closer to me than I expected. My heartfelt condolences to all that knew and therefore loved him.

Having Roger Moore as my audio tour guide at the Forbidden City was a joy (forgetting the thousands that wore the headset before me). What do you know, here's a bit:

    Rest easy, Mr. Moore.

Couldn't have said it better. He was awesome as Simon Templar.

    Very sad to hear.

I was too young to see Sean Connery and Roger was my Bond.

As I grew older I watched the older Bonds more.

Moore always maintained that Cubby Broccoli approached him first to play Bond but he had already signed on to do "The Saint" which had him promised part ownership of the show. Notice how "The Saint" in it's last seasons became more of a "Spy" show especially in the wake of "The Avengers". The early B&W seasons were better when it was more of a noir-ish crime show.

Moore was the oldest actor to assume the role of James Bond. Hence his Bond was more laid-back and not as intense as Sean.

Moore starred on "Maverick" after James Garner left the series in a contract dispute.
