Yesterday Ronnie Splinter passed away after a year long battle with cancer.

He was the prime guitarist and songwriter of the Dutch garage band The Outsiders. For a few years The Outsiders was one of the most succesful and infamous bands in the Dutch beat scene, known for their wild shows, often leading to fights with and among the audience.

They are however most famous for releasing some exciting garage rock singles such as You Mistreat Me, Lying All The Time, Touch and Monkey On Your Back. The psychedelic album C.Q. from 1968 stands out as one of the best Dutch albums from that era. Highly recommended!
Although they were mainly sucecsful in The Netherlands in the 60's, the band was discovered in recent years by international garage bands and collectors.

The Outsiders split up in the late 60's, but toured again in th 90's and in recent years. Singer Wally Tax died in 2005.

I interviewed Ronnie Splinter a few months ago in his home in Amsterdam. He was a great songwriter and guitarist, but above all he was a very nice, soft spoken and warm man. I took a quick picture with my iPhone that tells a lot IMHO. He is holding his Guild guitar he recorded most of his 60's hits with.

Nice little tribute. I'd repeat CQ is a masterpiece, though very few people here have heard it.

    R.I.P. Ronnie.

I love that photo. Thanks for posting it.

CQ has always been a big fave of mine.

  6. R.I.P. Ronnie. I'd rate "CQ" right up there with The Pretty Things "SF Sorrow".

The Lyres did some Outsiders covers in the 80s, here you can see their singer Jeff Conolly with the Outsiders, recorded in 2008.
Ronnie Splinter is on the right, same guitar as pictured above.

R.I.P. The Outsiders were very underrated outside the hardcore garage rock circle.
