Though it's now over with for years., I only recently discovered Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour; listened to a couple of shows; excellent. Great, diverse music, Bob a very knowledgeable DJ on both the music and other matters relating to the subjects, really just superb. Again, I know this was an old show not on for a decade now, but it was something else to hear for me, and I plan to listen to more of it. I got a great kick just hearing Bob as a DJ period.

I don't listen to the radio much, but I love the Jazz programming on WKCR, especially Jazz Alternatives or anything with Phil Schaap. The Birthday Broadcasts are excellent. My very first exposure to the station was during a visit to NYC when Dizzy had just passed. They were playing everything he recorded, everything...including interviews and live sessions in the studio. I learned so much.

#1 with a bullet is the Gorilla Vs Bear show on Sirius XMU on Thursdays at 12pm EST (Channel 35). Easily the best modern day selector there is. Focus is primarily Dream Pop, and lighter electronic with flourishes of a bit of hip hop, folk, etc. Even throws in the odd old school gem now and then (ie The Zombies, Fleetwood Mac, etc). Really wish they would give him his own channel.

Also on Sirius I listen to Aquarium Drunkard and Carles.buzz (also on XMU) and Steve Earle's show and Hillbilly Jims Moonshine Matinee on Outlaw Country (channel 60).

Would really love to find a good downtempo, deep house and/or Balearic radio show for electronic needs (sadly Sirius's Chill channel is garbage and sticks to boring remixes).

I used to love Joe Frank on Public Radio.

f yea man. HiFi Guy 008. I love Joe Frank. I'm always bewildered why he is kind of unknown. Some totally cool stuff he has done. He and his collaborators.

There is just a spell with his monologues. And some of his other theme shows. The rent a family one and the one where he kind of has girlfriends get real frank about stuff. Sometimes hard to hear really.

Right on HIFI. I though of starting a Joe Frank thread but i don't think he is known enough. I used to play him in my cab and it would always get reactions from people. He just has a weird cool vibe to his stuff. Love Joe!

WDST in Woodstock NY for everyday listening. Independent, local-oriented and just down the road from Levon Helm's Barn. Try them--they stream.

Stand-alone program? Little Steven's Underground Garage, of course!

Mountain Stage, on my local NPR station. Though I'm not sure if the show is specifically affiliated with NPR. I usually do not know the artist playing, but I almost without fail enjoy the performances. Usually artists on here would be classified as "Americana," or "Roots" music... but I've heard a lot of different genres. About the only thing they all seem to have in common, is not sucking!

My favorite show was "10 At 10" on KFOG from San Francisco. "Ten great songs from one great year" (and occasional special shows). Dave Morey hosted it for at least a few decades before he retired. It continued for several more years with a couple other hosts, but was 86'ed when KFOG cleaned house and changed format a few years ago. I have over 1,000 shows recorded, some still on cassettes and VHS, most have been digitized.

Steve Dahl is still doing it on WLS. But his radio show pales in comparison to his great podcast network shows. KevHeads can find Kevin Matthews on the DahlCast too.
