I thought the exact same thing! Then I figured he must be going on a scale of 5.

Nice, and my ratings would have been similar. But I would have only rated the studio albums as I'm not familiar with compilations or live efforts

Interesting as we don't vary that much except for Brighter which I love and you seem to dislike pretty badly and Hosannas which you similarly panned. Might I ask what it is about Hosannas you dislike so much? Is it the production? The lengthy, industrial tinged songs? I, personally, find it to be one of their heaviest outings and it'd get a 10 from me for "Gratitude" almost alone. That said, I didn't like it either upon initial listens. It's a "grower" of an album that with repeated plays has become a favorite. In fact, it might be the Killing Joke album I listen to the most!

Interesting. I seem to like the later stuff better than a lot of people, but overall, I think I'd agree with your assessments except I'd give Nocturama a much higher rating as well as Dig. Thanks for doing that, though.

I think Nick's still doing quality work in the latter stages of his career. I just proceed with caution more. I'm not overly fond of Warren Ellis taking over as the unofficial music director of the band and wish Nick would get over his bromance with him.

I've heard similar complaints about Warren Ellis in other NC&TBS threads. I think once Mick Harvey left the band, Nick kind of turned to him as they've done a lot of work together on soundtracks and so forth. But I understand what you're saying. That said, I am huge Warren Ellis/Dirty Three fan, so I don't have the problem you do. Big Mick Harvey, fan, too, though!

as far as the comps with non-album cuts, I'll go with Louder Than Bombs. I'll give it a 9.5 instead of 10, because of Golden Lights, the only Smiths song I dislike.

One of the main reason's Mick left the band was because Nick made Ellis his go-to guy. He relied less and less on Harvey. Out of all the people who've floated in and out of Cave's orbit over the years, the most consistent and important person was always Mick Harvey. That said, Push the Sky Away turned out better than I expected.
