There are two Senegal 70 compilations, it seems... Interesting. I love Orchestra Baobab... I have the Pirate's Choice LP reissue by World Circuit, which is excellent.
I suggest you remove the records from the cover and 'air' out the cover and poster. One side of my records has a nasty cloudy stain that looks like that caused by leaching from PVC outer sleeves. I think this stain is caused by the fumes from the silk-screen printed cover.
Maybe music snobbery but for me his best work predates Soro, need to check out his Les Ambassadeur period, however amazingly most CDs are OP.
At the moment this song is moving me to fits of adoration and recommendation. I've been in Mixtape mode, the last three Mali tunes, I posted, making it to my 3 CD comp. Guinee's produced a 6 CD 'Box Set' This is nice
You can tell I'm in an obsessive phase, I think I got an addicted award recently!! This is playing as I type, counseling has been sought
Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba's Jama Ko. All his stuff is great but this LP is full of addictive grooves. The vinyl edition is really nice too.
My therapist says you're not helping with your 'likes', I think she's becoming obsessed with my obsession! Anyway:
Given albums by Les Baxter and Martin Denny have been recommended on this very page, I think it's fair to say geography is not this forum's strong suit !
I know it's not African but it seemed this thread ran out of steam and I thought the original poster might enjoy this one. It's not a million miles away...musically.
