Are you sure? I'm pretty sure I had all the Ronstadt target versions and Prisoner is not one of them.
I meant I still had the early CDs. I bought PID in 1987. I'm not at home at the moment so I can't check what the disc is.
I haven't done the research to state this with certainty, but I would swear that the European version of this 5 album set has Get Closer in place of one of the other titles... (time passes) EDIT: WRONG again! I'm quoting Wayne Klein's Amazon review here: "Be aware that this U.S. release isn't exactly like the UK release of the same title Original Album Series. This set includes the albums "Prisoner in Disguise", "Hasten Down the Wind", "Simple Dreams", "Living in The U.S.A." and "Mad Love" while the UK set doesn't include "Hasten Down The Wind" and substitutes "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind" for it instead" This would explain why used prices for the Euro-Rhino package start at $72, and new, lists as $363 (from Amazon Sellers), it's different and out of print.
ORIGINAL ALBUM SERIES - BILL EVANS (Warner/Elektra) New Conversations Affinity (with Toots Thielemans) You Must Believe In Spring The Paris Concert Edition One The Paris Concert Edition Two I have 4 out of the 5 albums in this box but it looks like it could be a very tempting package for others... It's also great to see some superb Jazz albums being made available in this manner from the original sources what with all the other dubious box sets currently in circulation.
^Nice find. Could not locate at Amazon.com but Amazon UK currently has it available for pre-order; http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...ue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
I've bought 3 of these box sets this month, so now here's the list of what I own: John Coltrane Jethro Tull Kajagoogoo/Limahl Linda Ronstadt Seals and Croft Carly Simon All of them cost me $9.99 new at Barnes and Noble except for Kajagoogoo, which can be had for about $20 on Amazon or eBay. If you have a B&N near you, check it out since they usually have many of these sets in the CD section!
Right around Xmas, I purchased the Curtis Mayfield collection for pocket-change price of $5.99... It was an impulse buy as I was just killing some time as the ladyfriend was in a near-by store... I figured if I even got a few car rides out of the the box set, it'd be worth it... There were three albums in that collection I didn't have... The golden age of CD buying -- it's akin to just running out and buying a newspaper.
Just discovered this one... http://www.discogs.com/Agnetha-Fältskog-Original-Album-Classics/release/2949191 Apparently she had 2 of these. Darryl
This set has nothing to do with the Warner/Rhino Original Album Series. It was issued by Sony on their (similarly titled) Original Album Classics.
I'm hoping one day either Rhino or Sony release Kevin Ayers vol 2, Procol Harum, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. I've got 8 of these sets and enjoy them all (though I can never remember which is Warner and which is Sony).
I was wondering what the difference was between the 2 titles. I would see them sitting side by side in the store & it would just confuse me. Darryl
Barnes and Noble no longer has these sets for $9.99 on their web site. When I was in a local store a couple of weeks ago, they had some sets in the $9.99 bin.
Kajagoogoo, Jethro Tull and John Coltrane? You won't see them mentioned in the same thread too often! Great stuff, you're obviously very open minded.
The Montrose Original Album Series I would highly recommend. You get the Steve Hoffman AF mastering for the first album, plus none of the others have been "futzed" with in anyway.
I have the John Coltrane and Incredible String Band sets. The music's great and they sound really good.
To date, I have... Merseybeat (Incl. albums from Gerry & The Pacemakers, Swinging Blue Jeans and more) Roy Wood (Incl. The Move, ELO, Wizard & solo) Manfred Mann And Paul Jones Otis Redding Vol.1 (Vol.2 is 'on the list..') The Hollies Vol.1 (Likewise, above) Bobby Darin Vol.1 ? (Ditto, whichever volume I don't have) The Everly Brothers Dr. John Groundhogs Bonzo Dog Band The Monkees Very few albums on any of the above sets that are less than very good, with some incredible. IMO. I'm waiting for the first reviews on the Cliff Richard one, due in just under two weeks. I'm trusting they will be mono as the images on Amazon show (I have already have all but one in stereo) but am uncertain of what these will be, with not seeing anywhere about any albums in these OAS sets being 'new' remasters...
The only Original Album series I need is the 'Everly Brothers'one. All the others I'm looking for are the Original Album Classics. Did Sony just copy the idea from WB? Darryl
yes but it is still the cheapest way to get Blue Afternoon. I was lucky to get that LP a few weeks before its release (nearly 50 years ago!), through my radio station.
Universal is doing it as well. They're called 5 Original Albums. I recently bought one of Stan Getz 50s Verve albums.
