I can imagine that both of those still sell enough albums separately that they won't have to package them together cheaply.
I know that they used the 1991 masterings, but I haven't heard them. How is the mastering on this set?
I was very pleased with the sound on all the discs in Volume 1 & Volume 2. It was a bonus knowing I had 10 great Otis Redding CDs and at a attractive price too, plus they were all issued by the company who owned and had access to the original master tapes - greatly reducing the risk of finding a cloned or CD-R nasty inside the box.
I'm happy to report that a new 5CD New Riders Of The Purple Sage box set will be released by Sony in September 2017 as part of the Original Album collection. Definitely. If these are taken from the previous CDs as I suspect, they will sound great. Jerry Garcia is on the first album and the early demos, but he wore himself too thin playing in The Grateful Dead and as a sideman with NRPS. Having Buddy Cage join NRPS brought a different sound to the band and he is great, although the recordings with Jerry are my favorite. They say Jerry was self-taught and had no formal lessons on the pedal steel, which is very impressive. The long list of artists from whom Jerry played pedal steel in the studio includes David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Link Wray, Jefferson Starship and many more. Even the post-Jerry albums are enjoyable and I think you will enjoy these career periods of the band.
Yes all of these albums are from the NRPS prime period and are their best. Don't hesitate. The debut album has bonus tracks included.
Can you or someone else please tell me if this set features the original masterings for all five albums? If you are not sure and could provide EAC peak levels, that would be great!
Issued in 2014 it is only recently have I got wise to how wonderful this selection is! Original Album Series - NINA SIMONE (Parlophone) 5CD All 5 Parlophone CD discs in this set were originally issued on Colpix LPs. Despite the issuing history it's a bit confusing to see them now available in this Rhino/Warner series.

Finally grabbed this set and I am Very pleased with it. I have several SHM releases on this set which are phenomenal, but these are great anytime/travel discs.
Not remastered, but they sound ok to me. No extra tracks, just as the albums were released originally.
