I loved him in Malcolm In The Middle, as the German dude ranch proprieter, Otto Mannkusser.
How could I not like a guy named Mars?

    RIP, Mr. Mars

Though his "Dr. Hugh Simon, of music" character in What's Up Doc (one of my favorite movies) was really slimy :D, his performance was one of the most memorable & funny in that movie.

"I love your hair" :) (Dr. Simon to a music-loving philanthropist who's in the process of choosing who will receive a large grant)

I had the honor of recording Kenny Mars at a dozen sessions for LA commercial producer Alan Barzman back in the late 1970s, and he was a terrific guy -- very funny, fantastic at ad-libs, a total pro. I didn't even know who he was until I put two and two together and realized, "DAMN! This is the guy from the Mel Brooks movies!" What a character. Incredible in The Producers, amazing in Young Frankenstein, and unforgettable in both. A total scene-stealer.

Kenny had a big career as a cartoon voice-over actor during the 1980s and 1990s. A very talented man. There's a very nice tribute to Mars from cartoon expert Mark Evanier at this link.

Some of my favorite Franz Liebkind quotes, as only Kenneth Mars could deliver them:

I am the author. You are the audience. I outrank you!

Not many people know it, but the Fuhrer was a terrific dancer.

Hitler... there was a painter! He could paint an entire apartment in ONE afternoon! TWO coats!

Der Führer does not say, "Achtung, baby."

[holding a gun to his head] Soon, I shall be with mein Führer... and Himmler. I'm coming to join you boys! [he pulls the trigger - it's out of bullets. Deeply disgusted:] Boy, when things go wrong...!
