No. Oh, I'm sad about this! I got to meet him once at the Czechoslovakian Embassy in LA. I was introduced by my date who was old friends with him and he just looked at me slowly, took my hand, and said "Yes." It was like the greatest greeting of my life. Imagine a legend like Milos looking you over, nodding, and saying: "Yes." What a nice thing to say to a stranger -- "I approve." haha! It blew my ever-loving, filmmaker-wannabe mind. Rest in peace, Milos.

    Sad news. RIP.

Big fan of the Czech New Wave.

Loves of a Blonde is another great film from Forman. It is available on region 1 DVD from Criterion, and in region 2 from Second Run. Unfortunately, still no BD release anywhere in the world.

God no. Milos was an oldest and closest friend of my father (Elem Klimov) since the 60's and almost a part of our family. We spent countless hours and days together when I was a kid. He was almost like a czech uncle to me. What a lovely, charming and fun man, a real party animal and of course one of greatest film directors ever.

is another of his films that's part of the Criterion collection. I've owned them both for a long time. :)

I also liked Man on the Moon, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Amadeus. RIP.

  13. One of my very favorites. I remember way back in 1984 seeing him in a north beach cafe in San Francisco almost every morning for several months.

He would be there sitting with his young beautiful assistant chatting as she would sometimes takes notes.

They would meet there before driving over to Fantasy Studios in Berkeley to work on the post production of Amadeus.

We chatted several times over those few months as I was a regular of the Cafe too. He was a very generous and delightful man.

    He made great movies. .

Only an 'outsider' like him could have brought that vision to Hair. Great filmaker

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was the first adult-themed movie that I saw at a movie theater on my own when I was age 13. It still has as much impact on me now as it did back then. Today will be a good day for a re-watch. Rest well, Mr. Forman.

Very sad to hear - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of the most impressive movies I've ever seen. Hair and Amadeus are great movies as well.

Terrible news. Less than a week since another Czech master Juraz Herz died. Loves of a Blonde is my favourite of Foreman's films, but he was a rare example of a foreign director actually making good films within the Hollywood system.

  24. This was one helluva director. What an incredible legacy. What's even more incredible is that now Milos knows what none of us knows. I think that's pretty cool.
