RIP

 

I had the pleasure years ago of spending about 1/2 hr. with Rod in the parking lot of Pavilions Supermarket in West Hollywood. I passed by him as we exited the store and said hello. He was very friendly and happy to be recognized. I said I loved A Man Alone and from then on he was "all ears".

 

RIP. I too am a great fan of Sinatra's A Man Alone album.

RIP Rod. Your great writing will live on forever but you will be missed. You are a true legend.

 

A name from the past...

His poetry with strings albums (a couple of which I have on vinyl) are .... interesting without being compelling.

I liked his theme song from The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie....

...but I thought his 'versions' of a couple of distinctive Jacques Brel songs were abominable and it's annoying (to put it mildly) that these are the versions that are best known in the English-speaking world.

However, I think his heart was probably in the right place.

Little known fact. He wrote The Blank Generation years before Richard Hell

 

(Rod McKuen) adapt. Serge Gainsbourg. WOW!!

 

He wrote two pieces about Sinatra that were very good.

 

Always thought Rod Stewart should cover this song

 

I'm Not Afraid was particularly good, as much as I love the original.

 

Scott Walker covered the title song and Papa John Phillips married the star.

 

When I courted my wife I gave her a love card with a sound sheet inside that contained a poem/song by Rod. In this case it was titled "I Get High On You".
I also loved the series he recorded with Anita Kerr and the San Sebastian Strings. Particularly the second "the Earth.
Then there is THIS demented classic

 

I enjoy "The Sea" a great deal!

 

The Cramps used a Rod McKuen song (Noisy Village) as part of their pre show mix tape.

 

Good grief.
