For the price of the DCC the remaster is gold! I wouldn't call it loud anywhere. Just bright, yes but in a clear way. Cymbals are clean and clear as a bell.
I am slowly starting to get these. This is from another thread, but I thought it was more appropriate here for the question I have: I have just gotten the CDP 32 disc for Aqualung which a lot of people, including Roland like. I haven't listened to it all the way through yet. But I've picked up a bunch of old US editions, and they are all the same, except for the very 1st one with the shortened Wind Up on it. That very common US disc sounds quite good to me w/o having fully compared it to the CDP 32 yet. Dave, which one do you like?
Yes, I am paying particular attention to those VK's that have shown up in this thread as good sounding discs. Because they're cheap, I might try them for most releases then search for the more recommended editions.
Dave, I respectfully disagree my friend...unless you have the Wind Up (missing seconds end part) CD...the CRC club CD does not sound as good as the dark gray print VK (Digital Audio Disc Corp.) CD...I had the CRC you are referring to and sold it years back...we discussed this extensively in my thread about this CD a while back.
Laughing - Up To Me Repeat - Returning to the not too shabby stereo, Chrysalis CDP 32 1044 2, I like (the laughing) Up To Me. This has always been my favourite place for Up To Me on CD. I still enjoy Aqualung on "M.U." - The Best Of Jethro Tull VK 41078 DIDX 403 - Japan for MCA Canada (also my favourite place for Teacher). Too dull for some, they sound fine to me on a Harman/Kardon/Infinity system that is already on the bright side. CD only - I like the new remix and the burned to the brain original mix for the most part, but I find the EQ less than ideal (e.g. treble) on the remixed CD. Peter Mew, please resist the urge to brighten in the future, especially on Songs From the Wood. - Repeat http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=7362815&postcount=115
Okay, don't own anything by Tull. Heard Thick As A Brick. Want to buy it. MFSL is out of the question. Original CD or remaster?
Either, the remaster isn't awful although the original sounds more natural (there might be different masterings though, you'll have to ask or do a search). Or you might want to wait for the 40th anniversary remix which is due this year and will probably be spectacular sound-wise.
I seen the CCD cd version of Aqualung today. I haven't read through all the posts but does anyone has any comments on it's sound? Much appreciated.
Just got "A Passion Play" CDP 32 1040-2 Chrysalis Made in the U.K. So far I've only played this in my car but I like the sound of it. I'm about to throw it in and play it through the Klipsch Cornwalls
fast question: German Chrysalis vs UK Chrysalis vs USA Chrysalis are completely different masters? and Chrysalis CDs refer to CD with the "black" background with titles on white on the tray of cd?
The short answer is no, some are the same, at least between the UK and US Chrysalis. Stormwatch UK & US are the same and is the only one I can personally verify, though Roland's very first post mentions SFTW are the same too. There may be others that match, though they are probably buried in this thread. For the original US Chrysalis, yes, though some have white spines with red letters and others ahve black spines with white letters.
I compared for "Songs From the Wood", and they were identical between UK and US. For "WarChild" they were similar in sound but not identical. For all albums before that, they are different as far as I know. I have compared many of them but not all.
Any updates? I can't find the US DADC (VK) of Benefit to save my life. I've convinced myself it doesn't exist to save my sanity. As for Aqualung, how did you find the US DADC (VK)? And how about the WG Polygram CCD 1044?
I have to do some more comparisons, but I really like the flat transfer on the Thick as a Brick DVD. It might be the best digital version. Anyone else feel the same?
anyone in this list counts this japan for japan pressings http://www.vintagecd.ru/jethro_tull.html TOCP and CP28 ... they share same mastering or are not good, its seems that TOCP are released in the 90s
