Lol just noticed I sneaked Every Night in there, making it 41 :D

(It is definitely on my list, at no. 16... but Only Mama Knows wouldn't get cut... hmmm)

I wonder what Paul thinks of this list?

He's probably happy they made one. I kind of doubt he'd quibble about the inclusions and exclusions.

You beauty. My number one shagging album of all time. But it's by The Fireman because most of those girls I played it to would have left if I'd told them it was McCartney.

I just phoned him to ask and well here it is, transcribed:

'Yeah well you know choosing your favourites is like choosing your favourite children and since I have so many children, it'd definitely be a bit of an unwise move to choose 40 favourites if they were all in the room with me, as they currently are.
(aside to room) Oi. Keep the noise down or I'll not include you on a list."

I was totally put out that "All You Horse Riders" didn't make the top three

I have a feeling my friends would enjoy some of his music if I didn't tell them it was Paul McCartney. I remember I was at a friend's house and she told me to play some music from this century, so I queued up Memory Almost Full and when I said it's McCartney, she told me she'll play the music.

This is very interesting to me. Interesting to see how attitudes towards the songs change over time. Some of these were hated and now are in his "Top 40" evidently. Interesting. Thanks for posting.

Can't read the rolling stone list. How many songs on this list do not feature in the Pure McCartney album?

Agreed. Ringo is on it. How can it not be higher?

Honestly, I've always found Beautiful Night to be slightly cheesy. I do like the middle eight though.

The melody is great but the lyrics are so bad, it’s like Paul doing his best imitation of Paul.

“A beautiful night for love...a wonderful sight for lovers of love to behold?”
“Even if I get a medal from a local neighborhood?”

And rhyming dead of the night with....dead of the night.

Not good - even for Paul.

I don't mind the lyrics. Never paid attention to them actually, other than in the middle eight.

It's the melody that I find cheesy.

Perfect missed opportunity to namecheck Peaceful Neighbourhood.
