Sansui AU 555 or Sony STR-4800 SD?

    As the title says...

    My current setup is this:

    Audio Technica AT440MLA Cartridge ->
    Technics SL - D2 Turntable ->
    Sansui AU 555 Amp->
    ADS L780 Speakers

    I have a Sony STR-4800 SD that occasionally cuts out on the left channel, which a tech-geek friend says he can fix without much difficulty. So, which would be best for the "real" system? I've got an MP3/CD only setup in my office, which would get the "loser" in this shootout.

    Thoughts?

    Since you have them both, the answer is "whatever sound best to you." Are there other considerations you're thinking of?

    I'm not sure, honestly. My friend might need to order parts to fix it in the first place.

    I've been hitting the mute switch (which doesn't mute it so much as drastically reduce the volume) and cranking it up to insane levels. The left channel doesn't cut out if it's up loud enough, but for obvious reasons, I wouldn't rely on those results to judge fidelity. I'm using it in the office that way (for the moment.)
