I have a Scott 4 UK pressing cost 30.00 ( this was 20 years ago). Best sounding album out of tbe quartet.
There is an older thread which had some discussion of Scott 4 vinyl pressings. In a nutshell, you'll not find a bad vintage pressing (condition dependent of course). UK is a little 'darker' than the Japanese and the Dutch is the 'brightest' of the three. There is a EU reissue from 2004 which is also highly recommended, although it is cut even hotter than the Japanese which makes the sibilance on the master tape a little too evident for my taste. Avoid 4MWB reissue at all costs. Newest reissue is merely OK but go for it if you can stand digital vinyl.
Bless my mum! I was just talking to her on the phone and telling her I’d got it and she asked what I like about him. She knows nothing of his solo work but the first gig she ever went to (and she had her late teen/early twenties in London and was really into music and has seen almost everyone, and loves rubbing it in!) was the Walker Brothers when she was about 14! I’m going to dig boy child out of the cd cupboard so she can have a listen as I think she will really like it too
The Australian Scott 4 (and Scott 3) have no gatefolds but are cut from the same metal as the UK pressings.
The Walker Brothers: Portrait UK LP comes with a signed portrait photo inside of the band. Well worth picking up if you see it about.
Stray observation: I just noticed that Scott’s ‘name’ songs are among his greatest early work - ‘Mathilde’, ‘Jackie’, ‘Angelica’, ‘Rosemary’, ‘Jean The Machine’, ‘When Johanna Loved Me’ all excellent songs.
I've got the Best of Scott Walker song book. 11 songs, unfortunately not on it. Has one Engel song "Deadlier Than The Male." she whispers such pretty lies ...
I found a Scott 4 Factory Sample LP original UK pressing some years back. A prized possession. Enjoyed parts of this years proms:
Today is a good day! Not only did my uk Scott 2 arrive but so did my Japanese Scott 4 (a week and a half from Russia!). You are right, I am not disappointed at all, it’s sounds wonderful, full and lush. The cover is also in superb condition. One of my best discogs buys yet I reckon
I guess my German Starclub pressing has that too. So does the UK original of "Scott 2" but I've never found the portrait inside.
I have 11 UK vinyl titles of Scott /Walker Brothers. My Scott 2 comes with illustration/drawing ( a bit like Nick Drake Fruit Tree box ). Climate Of Hunter comes with lyrics /inner.
Walker Brothers 3 UK studio albums should be much cheaper now. Noticed the value drop a couple of years after TILT came out. Never seen one in mint condition. The groups girls fans must have played them to death.
For someone with such evocative lyrics and inventive music, the titles are seriously underwhelming, lol!
That prom was a good idea let down by a weak selection of singers. Very few of those performances were up to scratch.
