If you can't rise to that level, why even bother?

You start a thread about Bjork and then post a bunch of pictures of Elton John?

Yeah, I don't get it either. This thread seems pretty pointless.

It's about the creativity and visual appeal of Bjork's outfits, both in performance and photo sessions, posted in the Visual Arts forum. What's not to get? My point is, I think she raised the bar.

This is an opinion... She looks stupid. She’s a talented attractive woman who looks nuts to me.

That's an opinion also. Which is fine, of course. Nothing wrong with sharing opinions as long as we stay civil about it.

So it’s my opinion she’s attractive, I can understand you questioning me.

All kidding aside I really don’t mean to be un-civil. I simply mean in my opinion the cloths and face mask things look ridiculous. Let’s be honest, If you were walking through your grocery store and she walked by dressed like that, wouldn’t you think her crackers were unwrapped?

I think the music could shine more with less distraction.

Let’s face it.. If someone dressed exactly like Steven Tyler walked by me in the grocery store I’d think they looked stupid too.... while they laugh at my dockers probably.

Somehow I don't think haute couture is a natural fit with SHTV.

FWIW I love her visual style.

I'm a massive Bjork fan, and while I think her visual identity is strong, creative and highly memorable, I also think it can detract from her musical genius. For many, many people, when you say "Bjork" they think "swan dress" and not much else. That's unfortunate because she's an absolutely brilliant singer, songwriter and artist and the fashion can get talked about more often than the music.

I'm glad to see a Bjork thread started on SHTV (highly rare), but it isn't about her music and it is in the visual arts section.

I’ll give Bjork credit for being a visual artist.

And everyone else’s point is, you didn’t give your thread a meaningful title.

Steve and the Gorts prefer us not to give threads oblique titles to improve searching and generally avoid confusion. Though at least you used “Bjork”... but something like “Bjork’s Amazing Outfits” would be better, boring as it is.

Bjork is a great artist and performer and these two things are interlinked (her visual identity and music). She is not following the norms of the music industry and that’s part of the reason she is still interesting and fresh. We should embrace and not judge people that don’t fit the norms and we have difficulty understanding.

Let’s not forget the work she’s done with the brilliant Japanese photographer Araki also:

They are all mad as hatters in Iceland.

I think in a world where the likes of Pink Floyd and others go on stage looking like they have just finished the gardening it's great Bjork does what she does.

Who is "contending" with Bjork for crazy outfits? Lady Gaga maybe back a few years ago? I can't think of anyone else.

I am also interested in this aspect of her persona. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that if someone were to put together a similar thread based on Bowie’s visual style, it would’ve been greeted with a different sort of response, which is a shame.
To me, the visual aspect of her presentation is as interesting as the music.

I only have one of her albums on vinyl, which is Homogenic in its original pressing.
I wish I had all of the albums in that format so I could see the artwork more closely, however it is not a priority by any means.
I hope someday we see an art book looking back over her career - it will be fascinating.
I thank the OP for doing something different, which has been a breath of fresh air.
